broken hardware

Today I was tighting my rear turn signal and busted the stem on which the wires go thru. It is the part the signal tightens to and goes thru the fender. I need to replace that part, do I cut the end in which it plugs into the tail light or can I unwire inside the turn signal? I own a 2007 dyna lowider. Any help would be appreciated.

Well fixed the stem, everything works....but the turn signal is stripped, anything I can use to adhere it to the threads for the time being, money is a little tight for replacing the whole unit. THX

Hi, J/B weld is a good thing. Could you use washers to get past where stripped threads are. Original nut. To expose good threads to tighten it up? All you need is 3 threads to tighten it up. I've used a tap set to re-chase threads to a smaller diameter on stripped threads. Using a smaller nut. Fine threaded instead of cource threads die maybe? Take the thing to your neighborhood hardware store & try a metric nut? Dave
