Turn signal module troubleshooting
Some of you might have been following my thread on trying to get the wiring harness out of the frame on my wideglide to get to the turn signal wiring. I was trying to diagnose a problem where my left rear signal would stay lit and with no change in the front left turn signal when I hit the switch. So, constant on left rear, running light only left front. Right side worked fine. I thought it might have been my wiring since I had soldered a few times, had apes once, then drags. Plus I don't like having the stiff solder joints, I've seen them crack and break apart over time.
So, I thought it would be a good time to redo the wiring by re-pinning. After much trouble!!!, I got the harnesses out of the frame. First thing I did was to switch the left and right sides. Well, the problem now moved over to the right side!!!! So it's not my wiring, from the harness to the switches. It's obviously not the bulbs, so...my next guess is the turn signal module.
I wasn't aware that they could only go bad on one side. I thought if it went bad, the whole system went bad. However, all the threads I've seen regarding only one side going bad talked about how one side was COMPLETELY DEAD. Mine is not completely dead, the rear lights up and stays on, no change in the front. Does this sound like it could be TSM related??? If it's not, it would have to be the wiring in the frame, and I can't see how that would happen with it just sitting there in a steel cage! But anything is possible, right?
Anyway, if anyone knows about this, please let me know as I am really dreading having to pay the $120 for a new TSM, if it's not a TSM problem. Times are definetly tough for us all!!
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help we all get around here!
