Wiring extensions for handlebars switch

I have an '05 Nighttrain, and Im switching the stock handlebars out for a Street Slammer with another 4" in risers. I realized that I have to extend the electrical control wires to do this. I tried the cut, splice and solder method and it didn't work out (horn blaring, turn signals blinking, etc.). Went back and cut the soldered connections and re-attached the wires to their original state (just splice and tape to trouble shoot). Everything worked fine.

Then I spliced in 14 gauge electrical wire extensions. Now the headlight isnt working. Everything else seems to be ok. Re-checked the headlight wires by taking out the extensions and re-attaching it to its original state, and the headlight still didnt work. Anyone have any clues? I dont know much about electrical work, so please be simple. Thanks.

Call me Mr. Obvious...

but I have to ask, was the battery disconnected before
work began?

If not, then a fuse underseat prolly blew.

Well - when I swapped out my handle bars on my 04 Night Train, I bought extensions. I forgot where I found them, but they just plug into the stock harnesses.

But then I wound up getting the wire harness stuck in the handle bars - losing my temper and having to by a new set of handlebars and harnesses.

If I find the link for the extensions, I'll post back.

I tend to like to keep things simple so that I can change easily or go back to stock.
