Thundermax is good

I agree that it is a great product. It is not too often, one finds a product that makes such a huge difference in performance with very little effort!

That's why I like ThunderMax and will continue to be an advocate. I was datalogging to my laptop when a cager smacked into me 2 weeks ago. It is quite interesting to view!

My frame, swingarm and all the sheet metal is being replaced. Look forward to having almost a completely new bike. With the ThunderMax, my engine runs better than new! (31,000 miles on a 2005 deluxe!)

It's exactly what I needed. This is my first efi bike and my biggest worry was making it run properly after upgrades without paying labor to someone.
I may not understand the fuel system, but I can tell a good running bike, and this upgrade was literaly plug and play,I haven't changed a thing since the first start up.I think it really is good bang for the buck.
Time to rack up some miles!

Download the manual at the same place where you got the software. The code is on one of the first couple of pages.

Their software makes it EXTREMELY EASY to discover a appropriate starting map.

Just from looking at their software I am sold on this product. I know a little about this area, I have a racetuner and I have tcfi. So far tundermax is waaay easier than the other two!
I'm looking forward to welcoming you to the "Satisfied TMax Users Club".

Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each week, due to the members out enjoying their "new" bike the rest of the time.

Closed or Open Loop

My '04 Duece is open loop. I plan to go with ThnuderMax. Is it the wiser choice to add bungs to the exhaust headers and go "closed loop" or, just stick with the basic ThunderMax open loop?

I went Power Commander with 02 eliminators. I like the fact that I can bring it back to stock for warranty issues, and it runs great, but the auto tune feature would be the Cat's Ass.

I wonder if Power Commander will be coming out with their own auto tune? When I am out of warranty, I will consider this system.....

I talk to my builder about the autotune. I think he's sceptical about it and thats why he said not to. Old school I guess. Anyway I'm staying open loop for now. I found a great tuner.

Autotune work great on the relitivly constent RPM, constent load situations. With an alpha-n system it may be the only way to keep the thing in tune. Alpha-N systems without autotune will get out of tune most every time the weather changes. The problem comes in on the "just passing thru" areas of the map. The tuner could have that area perfect the day it left the dyno. 6 weeks later the temp drops 50 degrees and the baro pressure went up. You gently drive around with auto tune on and the center of the map is fairly good as autotune has kinda homed in on the new answer. Then you nail the throttle and the entire top end is too lean. Its just the nature with Alpha-N systems. I would not own one without auto-tune. It will always be out of tune.

All Megaquirt systems have this feature if hooked up to a laptop. I helped develope the logic. The MS2 code has it built into the base code and does not need the laptop to run constent autotuning. The devel is in the details on how to deal with Aceleration enrichment, hard acceleration and constently changing peramiters. By the time the ECU sees lean the map is twenty cells over in the map. Just for the record, my jet-ski acelelerates at 15000 rpm per sec. That's from 3500 to 7000 RPM in just over .23 sec. It can see as high as 33000 RPM/sec under some conditions. It has to run MAF to deal with the air flow changes. That vehical is what pushed the MAF development of the code.

I forgot to mention that if you ever get way off the beaten path with this style setup, you may never get it to tune out. For example you want to turbocharge, supercharge, install huge injectors or independent throttle bodies. A fully tunable speed density system will dial right in.

Wondering how the T-Max w/Auto tune deals with ignition/timing map changes that are needed ?? or does it only tune the fuel maps ??
