Is a HD ECM Flash required with PC III/USB

Hi all

Ok so I am going to build a GMR 98" and add a PC III to make it work,, Do I need to have the SE Stage I or II ECM flash or will the PC III be able to compensate enough?? It will be a NEW PC III so should have the REV extender like the SE Stage I&II Flashes.

Do not want to sound too cheap but 150$ for a flash = new Ness Big Sucker

Thank for the info

No, but some people do it as a back-up should the PC111 fail.
Haven't heard of them failing tho for several years.

It's kinda like wearing a belt and suspenders....

The only reason to get the HD download is in case the PCIII was to crap out you could take it out of the line and ride home on the download without being too lean....I've installed around 300 PowerCommanders and have only had one of the very first PCII's go bad...All 4 of our personal bikes at the shop are running the stock ECM, no download....

Just saw one fail last week on a RK. It would start for 2 or 3 secs tne die. It had came loose under the left side cover and was cut through by the belt. When we first hooked up the Scanalyzer, we saw the Baro reading going low and then into Default. Traced it to the dead PC. Having a map in the ECM that the bike will run on without hurting itself just makes good sense. Better yet, use a SERT and you don't have to worry about the PC failing.

Steve,

First, Thank You For Serving Our Country... Now,,,, YOU DONT NEED A SERT.... Your PCIII will do just fine and the flash is a waste of money. HD makes a ton of money in five minutes flashing ECMs...

Ride On,,, and ENJOY

I'm considering trading my PowerCommander for a Race tuner. Is there a map available for an '05 Road King, stage 1 with Bassani reverse magaphone and a true dual setup.

If there is a good startup map, It'll make my decision a lot easier.

Used to be you would need the stage 1 reflash to get the higher rev limit, but now you can do it with the power commander. Your wallet and dyno tuner will love you if you go with the power commander. The pc is not restricted to one bike, you can take your power commander with you if you sell your bike, it takes less time to dyno tune, and you can back up the custom map for your own use. the power commander allows for a live tune of your bike without the need to poke and hope like the sert. Yes the sert is a more robust tuner, but you dont need it.

Power Commanders fail more often then we give them credit. I often get them going again with a master reset. It just makes plain sense to flash the ECU and not add a piggyback system to a HD. Enjoy your SERT while you can.............

DOT has ensured MOCO won't be offering true performance products for our bikes in the very near future.

Cheers,
Frank

Is this one of the letters?
Screamin’ Eagle Calibration Cartridges
Purpose:
The purpose of this bulletin is to:
1) Announce that all Screamin’ Eagle Calibration cartridges will be discontinued at the beginning
of the 2007 Model Year.
2) Clarify that performance calibrations will still be available from Harley-Davidson.
3) Communicate where to get calibrations in the future.
Calibration cartridges will be discontinued from the Screamin’ Eagle product line, starting in Mid-
July, 2006. As inventory is depleted on each cartridge part number, they will become obsolete
and will no longer be sold. We expect that some cartridges will become obsolete during the
month of July, others may have inventory available for approximately 1 to 2 months.
Legal as well as Race Calibrations will continue to be available via the following delivery methods:
I. Digital Technician
Performance Legal:
 1995 - 2007 model year calibrations available in Digital Technician Phase 19 software to: US,
CAN, Mexico, Bahamas, Dom Republic, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands.
Note: 2007 model year calibrations are not in Digital Technician Phase 19 for countries outside
of specified markets
 1995 - 2006 model years will be made available to countries outside specified markets (except
France), but are considered to be “Race” calibrations in those markets.
Race:
 2006 model year calibrations are available in Digital Technician Phase 19 software to all
markets except France
 2005 – 1995 model years calibrations are targeted to be in Digital Technician by fall 2006.
o Note: 2007 and future Race calibrations will not be available on Digital Technician.
I
I. EFI Race Tuner
 Contains 1997-2007 model year RACE calibrations, see the Screamin’ Eagle Pro Catalog for
current part number.
The billing process for chargeable calibrations from Digital Technician is outlined on the following
page.
