I have read threads about the "vin 2 verification" a friend of mine who is a HD Parts sells man called the MoCo Tech support about this issue. If you take your 01 or 02 bike to your dealer they will use their computer to give your ECM a VIN (your VIN) then you can use the new SERT.
I wish the MoCo could have printed that on the disk, or installed it as a pop up.

Any word on what they are likely to charge for this gracious service?

In most cases it's gratis.
Just like asking to have the ECM re-flashed with the stock MAP, MOCO has asked that this be performed by dealers as a n/c service.

I was also told that this is a free upgrade, from the MoCo.
