Um, I'm no expert, but have any of you guys entertained a couple of basic things that most folks (including me) usually miss? The 'popping' from before, is usually unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust,(over rich mixture, resulting in the unburnt fuel) and is aided by a small exhaust leak somewhere downstream in the system. the gurgling noise is the same thing, only you have eliminated the over rich mixture that originally caused the popping. Mayhap you got a loose clamp somewhere in the works, or a less than sealed junction in the exhaust system. Its happened to me on more than one occasion, and its why I 'nut and bolt' the exhaust on my bikes at least a couple times a year. Hope it helps.
