What's theT-Max adjustment where.....
The engine cranks, but takes a long time to start? It's either raising or lowering one of the basic settings numbers but I don't remember which one.
Thanks

I believe you can but it takes you out of closed loop and runs 13 afr across the range if I'm not mistaken. The override is use mainly for dyno runs to establish best afr for certain rpms whether it's to get an afr to eliminate ping or squeeze the most hp out of the engine. Then a closed loop map can be tweeked from this data for best results. 13 across the board in normal driving would really suck for fuel economy, and might be a touch lean for full throttle loads. This is why it would be better to run off the closed loop map instead of the override, and get the best out of the system. Think of afr override as a diagnostic tool.

If you are talking cold start, increase the initial fuel pulse by 2-4 points in module basic settings.Your iac home position may be too low as well. This can be verified by trying to start bike with slight throttle. If it fires right up, there's your problem. Try upping it about 5 in basic settings.
If it's a hot start problem, that's still a mystery. For some unknown reason it will crank and crank but won't start, with some popping or backfiring the best thing to do is let off the start button and hit it again. It will fire immediately then. Happens to me once in a blue moon, but now if it don't catch on the first couple of revolutions I do a second hit on the start button and she goes. Seems to be spark related and both stock and tmax ecms will behave the same way.

It's still in closed loop. The AFR target is just set to always be whatever you have the override set to.

Well, you can look at the maps or if you monitor it there will be a target afrs that it is tuning to.

Makes sense, since it's in the closed loop settings window. AFR override provides a new target, seperate from the map target to what it auto tunes to.

Fuel economy
Dave,
Are you using the latest map for your combination? The newer maps have leaner AFR targets in the cruising range allowing for better economy while cruising yet a richer mix when you hammer on.

I had the same problem and I am running Kerker slip-on's made by Suppertrap. John at Zippers told me that it was caused by reversion, too much air being sucked in by the left muffler. John sold me a 5.00 device they call the popper stopper. It is an 1 5/8 freeze plug with a 1/2 hole drilled in the middle of it. You press it in the left exhaust head pipe so that it is flush with the head pipe. Then put your muffler back on torque the heck out of it and ride. It works, no more backfire. Call John

OK to ride?
Hey everyone, I just got thru installing my Thundermax. It was set up by zippers for my bike ( 2008 Heritage softail ) prior to shipping. I don't have a laptop at the present time ( have one on the way ) and i am wondering if it will be alright if I ride the bike without going thru some of the things the dorections say to do with a computer hooked up. I did follow the set up as far as initilizing the unit and starting the bike twice like the directions say. If anyone knows or has an opinion please let me know.
Thanks,
Fattdog
