Curtis
I had a chance to put about 50 miles on today. I had some pinging but when I checked the blms I had ted cells all over the place They all settled down when applying the blms got all 100s. I looked at the front cylinder trim after applying the blms and it looks like it did when you saw my original map. Do you think this could be a exhaust related issue.

If your frt cyl trim looks the same as before then it is probaly ok. Keep riding and applying because it takes time to cover all the cells. After the basic riding is done apply about evey 100 miles or so.

Need advice

Hi all...
I have just rebuilt my 04 flstci...
I have a DTT with dual O2 sensors...
Ride is 95" with 10.5 compression...
S&S 570G cams Fueling setup complete...
I installed a 50Mmm Zippers throttle body..

I had the DTT last year with flat top pistons and stock throttle body...It ran wonderful last year but I am having problems setting up the map to run with the bigger throttle body...still not sure if it's going to work...
at 5% and up to 15% i can't seem to get the cells between 2000 rpm and 4000 rpm to run in the 100% range...always come up around 74 to 85 percent...
Got any suggestions...it goes like hell at higher throttle but the low end seems rich...could it be the throttle body ??,,,is it too big for the build i have ??
Your expertise would be muchly appreciated..

Jack

Curtis,

It is amazing how much better my bike runs now that the loose connection on the IAT sensor has been fixed.

I was examining my log files with the mega squirt program I really like it. Any way I noticed that at WOT the AFR would not enrichen up to the numbers on the AFR map. I looked to try to increase the injector pulse width and the only way I could change the number on the set up page was to increase the expected hp. Any way I tried this and took it out to the on ramp drag strip for some quick full throttle run ups. I found I could over correct the lean issue to a rich but now I have another aspect to work with. I may be overlooking another way but this seems to work.

thanx curtis...i sent map to your email...hope you can help...i'm on a road trip right now and it seems to be running OK but the power isn't what I think it should be...
was way faster and more torquey with the flat top pistons...9.4:1 compression then and now it's 10.5:1 but it seems flat...

thanx curtis

Thanx a bunch curtis...
I kinda thought that I had the timing curves too high...I used a chart that was on a previous thread that had a advance curve for an engine similar to what I have...same mix and match parts...I even lowered the curve on the chart another 25% and it still seemed high to me...I may have misinterpreted the thread too...
I do apreciate your help and I must tell you I enjoy the knowledge you share with so many people on v-twins efi forum...their are alot of knowledgable folks on here...
I'll let you know how it goes...

just a footnote...
We reached our destination this afternoon and when I got to our hotel my bike coughed puked out some smoke and died,,,I pushed her pretty hard the last 20 miles and I think she got pretty warm with the advance cure too high...I reflashed it with a previous run and it seems fine now...a little rich put not too hard on the motor..I will try your map tomorrow and let you know...

thanx again
jack

For what it is worth I have been thinking about my build and the initial results. I will post a dyno run that was done at 500 miles. I couldn't wait to see how things were going with the self tune. When I saw at the beginning of the run the AFR went extremely lean and settled down. I keyed in on the initial lean condition and missed the level it settled down to. I thought the lean condition could have been a exhaust leak so I put on v&h dresser duals headers. I now think that since I had only estimated 100 hp on the set up page that limited the fuel delivery to produce a max of 100 hp. This last week with over 1000 miles on the engine I have been testing some WOT runs and looking at the log files and realizing that at 100% throttle the lowest AFR was about 13.5:1 . I then tried to find how to get more fuel by increasing the pulse width and the only way I could do that was by raising the estimated HP that seems to do the trick. I now have it set at 145 and now the AFR will get to 12 - 12.5:1 on a WOT run. I have had to do a lot of tweaking to the advance curve now that the weather is getting hot mid to high 90s. This last weekend I took a 220 mile ride over a 5500 ft pass twice and still got 42+ mpg. I think I am just beginning to understand some of the power of this module. I appreciate all the info on this thread to help Twin Tech owners. They aren't perfect but what is. I wish I had the understanding that Curtis has with these units I hope to catch on to some more ways to improve the tuning process. I have the palm unit and cable now and can use it to monitor while riding. I am thinking of going to a hill that is several miles long at about a 6-8% grade and run repetitive runs up the hill at various throttle settings and map settings record the log files for each. I think it is the alpha -N files that ultimately need to be adjusted.

uploaded map sent

Hi C...
I uploaded the map you sent and it ran fine until I reset the BLMs twice...then it started to run rough at low idle and run hard at cruising rpms....I reloaded the map sent and didn't bother to reset anything till I got home...
One thing I did notice on the blms was that the "well" on the blm charts still exists from 1500 rpm to 3000 rpms from 5% to 22.5 % throttle...
I think this a characteristic of the 50mm throttle body...I am going to reinstall the stock throttle body that I ran last year...and see if I can get rid of the rich readings I get at those rpms...
I will reflash with the map you sent and see if that helps smoothen out the blms....
I'll let you know what happens...

thanx

Are you talking about the well on the frt cyl trim? If so this is common based on cam and exhaust. The rough idle is probably caused by a lean condition at idle. Do a live view and see what your afr is at idle. 13.0 -13.2 is as lean as I want to see it. On the mid range cruise lower the afr to 13.9 and and then apply blm's to see how it does. Watch your engine temp on data log 120c is good.

Let me know how it comes out.

gotta map for a TC95 with stock throttle body and SE intake manifold...

Hi C...
the well I meant was on the blms...seems to be rich always between 1500-3000 rpms and 5% and 35% throttle...
thats more or less the power band i run in when cruising around town...
if I raise the Alpha-N it seems to get worst...
I am trying a map I used last year the only difference being is the compression has been raised to 10.5...
One thing going for the change is that from 3000rpms and up it goes like a bat out of hell...lots of torque and it runs smooth...all blms at 100%...its just the power band I run in that seems rich...
Let me know what you think...
thanx
