It's a difficult thing to read plugs with the fuels today. With the ethanol and oxygenated fuels not to mention the additives in modern fuels, you will usually get a white tip on the insulator of a plug regardless of the mixture unless it is overly rich. Colors are usually from the additives in the fuel now since the tetraethyl lead has been removed.

You can read deep in the plug where the insulator contacts the barrel with a magnifier to get somewhat of a reading but don't go by tip color for mixture adjustments. Ground strap coloration is an indicator of heat range if the color changes at the curve in the strap, it is about right.

In a previous post you recommended some eBay dealers and not another. any reason?
The V&H guy (derek) suggested More Power Racing and they do have good prices.

thanks
I like to use Eastern performance, good price, free shipping, and good customer service.

I recently purchased a used 2007 Dyna, got it from a dealer, no access to the original owner. The bike came with V&H Big Radius, which I have replaced with D&D Fatcat w/ the quiet baffle.

I just had the seat off, and realize the original owner had installed a Fuelpak. I sent an e mail to V&H, who sent me there "best guess" for a map, and then downloaded the instructions from their website.

Per the instructions, I remove the 4 screws hoding the plastic cob=ver on, remove the cover, and then turn on the ignition (but don't start bike). At this point, the Fuelpak is supposed to light up (??). Mine doesn't.

Am I doing this right, or is there something I should check, or??

thanks, greg

After you turn the ingnition on you still have to put the on/off switch on the right grip switch housing in the on position. Just DON'T hit the start switch. I am certain that this will do it.

This makes sense. I'm currently using map 1719 and V&H tells that this is a very rich map. However, when I check the plugs I do see the white tip leading me to believe it is not as rich as V&H tells me.

My scoot is running so good, I just decided to not let it bother me. I am confident everything is installed properly.

That was it, THX, 2 more questions

1. The e mail from V&H re the new map. skips modes 19-22, but does have a value for mode 23.

My unit scrolls to mode 21, where I do the throttle check, then will advance to mode 22, but then it goes back to mode 1, i.e. i cannot get to mode 23?

2. Also, I have a value on mode 20, one of the modes V&H skips?

Any ideas?

thanks again

greg

For your second question...don't change anything on mode 20. If you see a value on mode 20, it is related to the fuelpak software version/diagnostics. I have version 13 for 2008 touring and it has the value 13 on one of the three modes (19-20). I can't remember which one. But anyhow, you get my point.

For your first question, I am not sure why it does not go to mode 23. It should. Just make sure you are not inadvertently clicking through it. Do you know what fuelpak software version yours is?

If you have carefully gone through each mode and are still getting the same results, Jeffytune may be able to shed some light on this one. He has a 2007 touring and his fuelpak may be the same software version as yours.

What say you Jeffytune?

Hi Greg.
I am doing the best I can one handed and working around the pain pills.

Ok, 19 is the throttle calibrate, you will need to wot, then shut the throttle. in cell 20 will tell you witch version your software is, 21 is a code set, used for diagnostics and 22 is used to confirm your throttle calibrate, you can wot the throttle, and the numbers should smoothly go from 00 to 99.

you need to set the throttle so you can go on to 23.

Jeffy, I hope you are feeling OK, really appreciate your help.

Per the online pdf instructions, mode 21 is what is used to confirm the calibration (i.e. codes go from 0 to 99 as you turn the throttle). This is also how my system works, which I have done.

I say this since you indicate this is done in mode 22??

On my system, when I scroll forward after mode 21 (which checkes out OK), it goes to mode 22, which has a setting of 0, then it goes to mode 1. I cannot figure out how to advance past mode22.

As I indicated, the e mail from V&H does not even address a mode 22 (skips from mode 18 to 23). Perhaps there was a typo, and they meant to change mode 22 (they indicate a setting for mode 23 of 16) ??

BTW, on mode 20, the code is 11, which I presume is my version ?.

Thx

greg

Pain pills are a wonderful thing, yes i had it backwards.

And yes if it reads 11 then you have version 11.
You can send it into V&H and for 30 bucks have it upgraded to version 12.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it. I sent a reply e mail to V&H, re: modes 22 and 23. Curious as to what they say.
