Hi,
I have emailed Vance & Hines TWICE now in the last few months with no reply. Does anyone have a direct email addy for a tech there?
My bike pops and farts and hesistates badly when not at full operating temp. The calibration has been checked twice and the throttle calbration is dead on. Bike runs decent when hot.
The fuelpak was purchased and intalled by dealer in October but for some reason there are no "mode" settings such as the version 12 should have.
I emailed V&H in regards to the popping and farting AND the fact that my new fuelpak isnt a Vers. 12 and STILL no response.

Hi Dork_316.
The Partsman Prayer
Oh lord I pray, to help through the day, all I ask lord, and it would make me smile from ear to ear, if everyone would just tell me, the make, model and year.
Without knowing your model, year, pipes you have, air filter, engine size and so on, It is very hard to know how to help you.
I see from your home page, you have a 2008 FXSTB, so is that like a softail?
Aside from that, I believe they are shut down for the holidays right now(I could be wrong) but I would use the phone number and call Vance and Hines directly.
Ask for Scott.
Technical line U.S.(562) 921-0071 Tech email:fuelpak@vanceandhines.com
You can also use the link here.....
http://www.fuelpakfi.com/harley1.html
Enter in your info and it will look up the fuel program for your bike.
I hope this helps.

V&H Fuelpak
I have an 08 Street Glide and I purchased the Fuelpak directly from V&H part number 61009. This is the new, just released Fuelpak for 08 Touring models. I have 28" Samson Ovals and Stage 1 air filter. I had the dealer add the Stage 1 but I added the Fuelpak. I have tried 5 different settings with the most current being FP 1791. The bike seems to be running okay but it still pops on deceleration but I think this is common with the pipes I have. The last correspondence I had with V&H Tech support suggested I try FP 1747 which I maytry shortly just to see if there is any significant improvement.
Try contacting Derek Hewitt [dhewitt@vanceandhines.com], maybe he can help.

For poping on decell, I would suggest that you look at the exhaust gaskets, any leak can suck in air and cause the pop, if they are solid, then recheck the cells and recalibrate the throttle in 19 after rechecking.

Assuming that your fuelpak settings are correct, I believe you may have an intake leak. Make sure that the back plate of the SE A/C is firm and secure to the intake flange. I am telling you this from experience. When I initially installed the equipment on my 2008 RK, I took the bike out for a test ride and after first starting it, it hesitated and pulsated a bit. I took it back into my garage, did a very thorough investigation of the install and realized that I could see light coming through a gap between the back of the SE A/C plate and the intake flange. I properly tightened the air cleaner fasteners and WAALAA!...like magic, she rolled like a dream.
Now...the reason your bike ran well after warming up is because your v-twin starves for less fuel when hot than when cold. By having the SE A/C not properly installed, you are allowing more air than what the system requires when cold, making the mixture lean. However, your engine (even though still lean) accepts the mixture when hot because the demand for more fuel has lowered in a hot operating condition.
This the reason why the enrichner on carborated bikes is pulled out further and longer in the winter than in the warmer seasons.
I had a carborated sportster and the plugs always had increased carbon buildup in the Summer compared to the cold season. Food for thought!!

impressive group of folks here
I have just read all the posts to understand what I could. I had a dealer do the SE kit for a K&N filter and the stage 1 download. I installed the SE pipes here at the house. I am totally uninterested in beefing up the size of the engine but would like a little cooler and a little more throttle response on passing. Picked this thread up on the TC 96 thread. Wow!! I am a "cook book" wrench with no particular skills. I emailed V&H this morning and have had three or four email conversations with Derek. I described the bike and he suggested a mapping dhewitt@vanceandhines.com Now it's off to eBay. My bike has run fine from the get go but hot. good gas mileage 48-50 but the heat is of concern. Heck I owned an ST1300 that was hotter and who could ever forget the excelsior hendersons? I just don't want to fry an engine.
For me, this is one of the best looking bikes for what I want, I have ever seen. I thought my 93 dyna wide glide was kewl, but this is better...for me.
Is there any reason that a guy with some, but limited, wrenching experience should not put this on? Derek was very gracious in saying he would walk me thru it if needed, but suggested I would be able to do it just fine. I know that some folks with a lot of knowlege on these things tend to over-estimate the ability of semi challenged folks!!!
Thanks jeff and all for a very valuable thread.

Ole' s Springer
Jeffytune: Just a quick question. I have 2005 Harely Springer Classic 1450 stage 1, highflow air, Vances & Hines fishtail slip on's. When I go to the Vances & Hines home page and the fuel pak section, when I get to the step 8ECM Calibration they only have two seletions stock or other, not stage1. I have e-mailed Vance & Hines support, still waiting for a reply. Any thought's or help would be appreciated.
Cheers Ole....

The fuel pack is new the bike is used. Only thing i'm worried about is it looks a little lean by looking at the plugs. What is version 11 and 12? How do you tell what you got?

I haven't had much luck with emails, but if you call V&H they will answer your question. I have had great and very helpful conversations with them.

I must have mis-understood your first post, if it's a new fuelpak, then it is a version 12.
Cell 20 will displace what version the software is if you still don't know.

speedy recovery?
Jeff,
Glad to see you back so soon. Hope everything went well.
In a previous post you recommended some eBay dealers and not another. any reason?
The V&H guy (derek) suggested More Power Racing and they do have good prices.
thanks
