ECU reflash?

A couple of weeks ago I bought an '05 FXD. Talking to the previous owner I learned that he had changed pipes and air filter. He was the second owner. Now I can't get hold of him to find out if the ECU was reflashed when he made the changes. Is there any way to tell if the ECU has been reflashed (besides putting on a tach and seeing where the rev limiter kicks in)?

is the bike carbed or fuel injection? if its carbed then most likely there would be no ECM flash only carb tuning needed if injected then it may have been flashed or some other tuning device( PC 3 V&H feul pack ) added.

Does the bike backfire when you let off the throttle? If it is bad that way, there is a good chance that it was NOT reflashed.

Sorry for not providing enough info. EFI and no popping on decel. The replacement pipes are not much louder than stock so, probably just as restrictive (Python 3). No fuel management system installed (yet).

I'm pretty sure the dealer can plug into the ECM with their Digital Technician and read the P/N of the current flash or program...that would tell you. A SERT will give you the same info too.

Put a Power Commander on it and have it mapped for your setup...dealer flash is wasted money...

Dealer can plug in and determine if the ECM has been re-flashed. For slip-ons and air box modification (not just a different air cleaner) the dealer ECM flash will work pretty well. On my 04 I installed the SE airbox and slip-ons myself then rode it to the dealer for the flash. The bike ran noticably poorer than stock on the way over. After the flash it ran much better than it did.

A sert or tts is a reflash, it is just programmable. If the bike runs well without popping and it has an ECM, dollars to donuts that it has been reflashed from stock.

Reflashed

The draler hooks up the computor and can tell you.. I did an SE high air filter assy on my 09 FLHX, to save my life I couldn't tell the differance, even asked the 2 H D mechanics before I did it and said some people notice a differance and some not.... I only did it as the instructions said it needed as damage could happen.. Running too lean). Well i've reserched and found out basicly the download will not give it more fuel as H D has to conform to EPA STANDARDS. Just the rev limiter goes up to I think 6200 RPM from like 5800 RPM...I just did it for warranty purposes..

It gives it more fuel, but in the areas that are not tested, like at idle. It changes the fuel rate at decell and other areas. It is NOT a remap, but a slight tweak. It is good enough for most stage I motors, if they were ok before. If they were problems or a cam, size, porting or compression change was done, you really need mapping.

Alright, I guess I didn't make the question clear enough. I bought the bike knowing that I'm gonna do a bunch of stuff to the stock motor (cams, big bore and worked heads, fuel management controller). After all the work is done, I'd like to know if the rev limit has been raised by the first or second owner. Guess I'll have to get a tach or go to the dealer to get the ECU read. Thanks for all the replies.
