Can a SERT .mt6 file be put in ECM with .mt5 file in it?

I'd like to put a map from the 4.77 disc(.mt6) into a Ecm which already has a Sert map from the 4.12 (.mt5) disc.
Does the ECM accept any file extension? Or, does it have to be the same file extension that was first put in it?
Want to find out before I try this and maybe lock the ecm up. Thanks for any info.

Was the mt5 a custom map? If so, you can cut&paste all tables into the 4.77 base map that you need to select from the calibration list. The 4.77 will open mt5 maps, but will not process them.

I understand what your saying, my question is more about the ecm. Can an ecm accept a correct 4.77 map(mt6) if the ecm has a mt5 map in it. If I use the 4.77 program correctly and use one of the mt6 maps - will the ecm accept the mt6 or do I have to install it as a mt5, ,because there was a mt5 in the ecm origianally?

SERT will overwrite the map in the ECM and there will not be a problem if you select the correct base map.

EXCELLENT!!! I was really gunshy that my putting a map with a different extension , than the one that is programmed in the ecm, would lock up the ecm and I'd have to bring the bike to the dealer to fix the mess I made. Thanks again ViennaHog.

Make sure that bike and computer battery are full and you follow the instructions to the dot. I know that's hard for guy.........

The 04 maps will not work on the 06 ecms without some modifying there are different rpm ranges that will not transfer over. It can be done, but not table to table. The ecms are different and the injector are different sizes.

The original post was not about the ECM year. 4.77 Software comes with a set of new cals that are labeled mt6 and they are backwards compatible to the previous versions. The 2004 map will not work on a 2006 ECM that's true, but that wasn't the topic anyway.

Yes, it does. My bike had a .mt5 map on it when i purchased it. I had to buy a SERT(since it was a cop bike and they retained the group sert), and the mt6 loaded right over the mt5. I don't know if that answers your question, but that was my experiance.
