TMAT computer problems, HELP!!!!
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BAD SERIAL PORT CABLE!!!!!!!!!! The serial cable has a comp. chip in it. Apparently it was toast. Working like a champ now. Buy a spare!!!!!
***********************************************
Okay, let me begin by saying I am like kryptonite to computers. That being said, here's my dilemma:
Bought A thundermax w/Auto Tune feo
a member on this forum last week, installed it on my WG, and went about getting it up and going. Problem right out of the gate, no serial to USB adapter. Weekend, so I went to Radioshack and bought one. Big mistake. Laptop number one would not allow the port to work properly. Finally got it to work with my other laptop. Installed the closest map per instructions, and the bike is running great. Unfortunately, I tried to connect again, and when I go to link, NO Module found, blah blah. Laptop shuts down. Called zippers this week, and was told that the adapter I bought was too fancy, and that It was causing a conflict. Bought the generic feo
them, same problem.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled smartlinkiv, and it still doesn't help. Unfortunately, both my laptops run Vista Home Premium. Crap OS, I know.
Getting numerous errors on both laptops rating to corruption in feature manager/backup file loaded, a d unknown software error. Both laptops worked fine before the Thundermax debacle. I even tried to go back to a restore point from a couple of weeks ago on one of the laptops, and I get a failure message. Totally confused. Frustrated, and pissed.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Heads go on, a d cams go in on Wednesday. I need thus thing to be up and going, and at this point I am totally stumped.

Up grade to vista premium, then do the Microsoft update.

not compatible with hypercharger!
man, make your lptop dual boot. load windows xp on a different partition and use it to run t-max and other stuff. use vista for everyday stuff. i have found tripp-lite serial to usb adapters to work flwlessly, YMMV. of course, buying a used laptop with serial port would be best bet for around $150.

I have the radio shack usb adaptor and have no issues at all.. it works great..
I also am running windows XP not vista.. I wont even try to attach my vista based computer to my Tmax...
because of all the problems you are having..
it sounds like your computers are having the problem not the tmax..
if you can try running on a xp system..
hope it works for you..

I had problems with vista and t-max but also had problems with other programs with vista, running xp now and works great with the radio shack cable. If you run a dual boot system you need to have two separte partitions on your hard drive to make it work. Or do what claydbal said buy cheap laptop just for this purpose only!

I have Vista Home on my laptop and it runs flawlessly with T-Max. Make sure you have the right drivers installed.

I agree with coolmaker.
They are selling these little mini laptops for cuising the web, with a small hard drive. I am thinking about getting one (about $189) for the TMAX, and while at hotels on the road. May be just what the doctor ordered. Small size, small price, fits my needs...

let us know how that works out. have wondered how they would be for carrying in a backpak and datalogging. saw one for $49 if you had a 2 year contract on cell phone internet---which wouldnt be a bad thing in some areas. not here-----they still think 750k dsl is broadband.

Mine fits in the small fat boy saddle bag, set it to stay on when closed and run the monitor logging feature.
Replay it and make adjustments from the monitor real time replay.
