PCIII usb RevXtend / Start Fuel upgrade "update settings"

2004 Softail EFI Deuce
PCIII usb SN# 040503006655

I recently purchased the RevXtend / Start Fuel upgrade kit for $40 from DynoJet. I wanted to upgrade my firmware also and this kit included the needed programmer. I went through the instructions included in the kit several times making sure each step is in the proper order and always making sure I have a good 9v power source. But each time after upgrading the firmware, I am prompted to "unplug the USB cable and plug it directly into the USB port of the Power Commander". I then click the "Update settings" box and get an error telling me that Power Commander is found but not communicating and that I should check to see that it is powered up. I get the green light on at the bottom of the fuel LED's and have double checked everything but still can't get "update Settings" to work. After getting stuck, I checked my firmware version and that part did work, it updated, but I get no ctrl f options. Any help appreciated.
