low idle

Hi, me again...

Well today I went to see my tuner (the same that did my last dyno tune) to ask him to rise the idle that run around 700 rpm (from tach/speedo) when the bike is normal hot (after riding more than an hour or so)...

I can hear some tonk tonk tonk in the front valve area.

He (the tuner) told me to come tomorrow that he will remove the air filter and in the throttle body there are some adjustment that can be use to rise the idle...

Personally I never red anything about this procedure, and would like to ask you if he is full of it and avoid my appointment or is this some kind of method that can be use to fix (rise) the idle on the bike ????

Thank again

Theres adjustment to the induction module, but I don't know much about it. Should be able to just raise the idle in the map. 700 seems way low, I think mine is over 1k. Its been awhile since I played with the tune, maybe thats cold.

Can look at the canned maps they give you with the SERT, see what they are running. If your using a SERT.

After reading through my cd repair manual, I noticed that there is some kind of adjustment (screws under the rubber booth) from the 2 throttle cable under the throttle grip...

would that be wise to use these cable adjustment to rise the idle on my bike ????

Thank again

Don't try raising your idle speed with the cable adjusters. You'd have to adjust all the free play out of the cables for this to work and then your throttle won't close when you let go of the grip.
Don't try changing idle speed with the adjusting screw at the throttle body either. If you turn the screw in to open the throttle blade, the ECM will lower the IAC stepper to compensate. It's a closed loop system; idle speed is a setpoint in the ECM and the IAC stepper opens and closes to maintain that setpoint. Have your tuner check the idle speed setpoint in the ECM, if it's higher than 700, you've got a problem somewhere...maybe the IAC.
