Unhappy T Maxx Tunner

Let me start by saying its been some time since I was here and think I need to spend more time here
I am looking to get my T-Max set up right.
The power plant is an 04 twincam - Mods are, R&R 525 gear drive cams,Flowed heads and bored to 98 CI
rinehart true duals. I have about 8000 miles on the rebuild, the bike runs strong and getting around
43 mpg across the board. even with the bike loaded it will not loose speed on the hills but when its
hot like a good romp down the highway hot it wants to ping if I give it some throttle. I can down shift
and get past it but I need to know which way I need to tune to get the ping out. I have replaced the
comp releases due to carbon fouling. (Help) As of now I am on a super restricted Buget due to the
current state of our ecconomy.

mtnmotorrider is an unknown quantity at this point
Use the graduated numbers tape on the throttle grip method described in the tuning manual to find at what rpm and thottle position you are experiencing ping. Go to the map or maps in the timing vs. thottle position tuning tree that you identified and start taking timing out a little at a time. Be sure to smooth the changes in with the rest of the curve if it is more than a degree or two. Test ride and make additional changes as dictated. You can't hurt anything and you can always go back to square one on the maps, as they will still show the original curves after you make the changes.

Good advice above, but it sounds like maybe carbon build-up could be part of your trouble. Has it pinged since it was built? Maybe some water mist thru the TB could help...worth a try & the cost is right.

Are your breathers routed to the intake?

sleeps in trees hit it i think. the true duals allow the fresh air reversion to corupt the o2 sensors, they tell the ecm the motor is lean and it slowly riches the mix. do the water thing, once decarboned, reset all learned offsets, allow about 300 miles of tuning (different throttle positions and turn off motor and restart often. once engine feels like it runs well, turn off the autotune and remove autotune module and plug o2 bungs.

Great advice Dennis!! Throttle response and every aspect of my engine is so much better since I shut off the closed loop function on my DTT.Bike had been running the closed loop for over a year therefore felt that it had been tuned enough.Never thought clicking the closed loop feature off would have improved the rideability like it did.My 98" would ping some with the DTT timing table but retarding certain rpm's fixed that.

Sounds like good advice and will get Started today ---- I do have one more question- If I were to take the laptop with me and do a run while it is hooked up to the tunner would that show where the problem is and get me closer to the info I need to make the changes? Again thanks for the input. Looks like a good day for a ride

remember, you can chase your tail that way. collected data is only as good as the signal. have you had the timing tables tuned on a dyno? have you compared your o2 readings to a dyno probe? only then can you use collective data.
