80" FXR4 w-W6, Mik42, SE Heads, Cometic .030 HG, and V&H Straight Shots

Alrighty then, I finally got the dyno run done on the 'Orange Crush'

The numbers are:
TQ 88.37
HP 80.19

when it was a stage one the numbers were:
TQ 71.39
HP 61.99

the chart is at the bottom of this post

The build is:

Stock cases

Stock bore and stroke

Stock pistons - Cylinders were ball honed only, running stock pistons and stock (but new) rings

Mik 42 carb

Pro-Force One A/C ... Think the new HD SE knock off ... flows lots of air

72cc SE Heads as delivered from HD, no porting, no polishing, no bench flow, still covered with power coating on the inside ... yuck

.030 Cometic HG

HD lifters

Riveria Taper-Lite Chromolly adjustable ez-install pushrods

The Dyno:

I don't know the make/model of the dyno machine

on the chart is says : "CF: SAE Smoothing: 3"

on the second page printout it says "SAE: 1.03"

here's the chart

The AFR:

It's running lean at WOT, going from 13.1 at 2800 and rising to 15.1 at 5800
and it's lean on the bottom, running at about 18.1 at idle and dropping to 13.1 at about 2800rpms

I plan to install one size larger main and idle jets to get it closer to 13.1 straight across the line .... what are you thoughts on this ??

change out that exhaust system and you will get even more power, smoother and more responsive. dsv

Wow Mikey--impressive. No, really.

Funny--my build is similar to yours and if I knew I had your numbers, I'd be thrilled. Never had mine Dyno'd. I would have figured something in the 70's for both numbers.

Looks like you made three passes, with numbers improving each time. What did you tweak between runs?

as odd as it might seem, as far as I know NOTHING was changed between runs.

I had to leave for awhile and the runs were done when I got back ... the bike was still on the dyno, but done. I was only interested really, primary reason for going, in the AFR number. I didn't want to be running so lean that I was gonna burn it up or shorten the life of the engine.

My guess is that the bike wasn't HOT on the first run. I know that it sat in the shop for about an hour before I left .....

I know your build is VERY close to mine. I would expect that your numbers are VERY close to what I'm showing.

Heck, it only cost me $50 for the dyno. Since I told them that I wasn't looking for them to do any tuning on the bike, just run it and give me the numbers.

I plan on going one size larger on the idle and main jets ..... and leaving it at that for now.

Next time I feel like spending 50 clams, I'll see if the AFR number is better .... it's a bit leaner on the bottom end than what I want.

Thanks for the recommendation Scott !

Taking it under consideration.

I'll see if I get bored this winter and what new and exciting changes I can bring to the bike for next spring ...... who knows ...... 89" stroker

what is it that you know now, that you didn't know when you built the 93" that leads you to know that you should have built a 96" stroker ????

Is that what I'd say after I built a 89"

IMO. the 89 is a waste of time. You already have the cases split to put in the new flywheels might as well have the cylinders enlarged to the 3 5/8 and make it a real good motor. Tons of power in all gears at all rpm's and it'll be just as reliable as the 80' was, only have much more power. I have several 96" evo's that make well into the 100hp mark and are daily riders, on pump gas. Yours could be next. dsv
