Fuel filter?

Is there a fuel filter or screen that is relatively easy to change on a 99 FXDWG? My bike will burp and fart occasionally like it's got a bit o crap in a jet, then runs fine... Then does it again... Not going away..

If your bike is EFI the answer is "no" because you're dealing with injectors and not jets. Throttle response is darn quick with EFI throttle body and this can cause throttle plates to open too quickly and cause those burps you talk about. This is especially true with HD's early EFI system. You can use a fuel additive to clean your injectors. The additive won't cause any harm btw.

Here's a cool link on Motorcycle fuel injection.

Peace

Dynas didn't have EFI in '99. If you unscrew your petcock, you'll find a screen that's supposed to be cleaned every so many thousand miles. Drain the tank before you unscrew the petcock.
No filter unless someone had added one between the petcock and carburetor.

Thanks Murph, now need a nice day to run the fuel down a bit first... I thought there had to be some kind of filter somewhere

If the problem persists, you might check the fuel bowl on the bottom of the carburetor for debris.

Unless it was asked for or converted to EFI. I apparently assumed more than I should have by not responding to the prospect of the bike not having EFI. I've been riding so long I just figured everyone knows about the filter in the tank.

Peace
