What is this, and where does it go??
Just finished replacing the stock air cleaner on my '08 FXDC. Took all of ten minutes. Now I'm done, and I see this sensor looking plug hanging behind it. Can't find where the heck it plugs into!!! Please notice the hanging cord in the pix. Help!
Also, the instructions say I must recalibrate the ECM with the new air cleaner. "Failure to recalibrate can result in severe engine damage." I have Vance and Hines Slip-ons if that helps.

I can't be certain as to if the plug went into the old air box or on the manifold, but you are now running VERY lean. Not good. Don't run that engine with out getting it remapped. Engine damage can and if run long enough, will occur.

Some kits come with a piece of doubleside tape to get it out of the way,I used a wire tie and tied it out of the way it is not used, when changing to a high flow a/c remap, or some type of fuel management is required to richen up the fuel mixture, you can have a dealer do the download for you that is the cheapest route if you plan no other mods,if you are going to be doing other engine/pipe mods a pc111 or sert is a better option since they can be changed to different configurations..

Ding...Ding...Ding...we have a winner! The HDI models have an active intake (flapper valve) and this wire provides the electrical signal to actuate it. Just hide it up out of the way and secure it.

With the new intake and a free flowing exhaust you do need a recalibration or tuner...you'll be running very lean.

A stage 1 download from the dealer is all you need no tuner unless you want to make more mods on your engine.

what is this
Someone on another forum said it is used on European Harleys but not on American bikes. Just tuck it up out of the way and secure it.

OK. Just got off the phone w/ the dealer. I was told there is no mapping available for any bike after '06. He has to sell me the tuner, roughly $450.00 and will need to put the bike on the Dyno for appox. 4 hours. Estimated cost for the job is $850.00. Does this sound right???

He's full of shlt. If you just purchased the Stage I air cleaner, H-D part #29406-08, you should be able to purchase the Stage I download that is listed as available in the 2009 H-D Parts and Accessories Catalog on page 505. It should cost no more than $150 installed, richens the fuel mixture, and allows the engine to rev to 6200 rpm. I'd get the dealer who's trying to rip you off to first admit that there is a much lower-cost solution available for a simple air cleaner-exhaust change than what they quoted you and then take your business elsewhere. There's no need for a SERT with dyno time for a simple Stage I air cleaner and pipes.

x2 on what glidemonkey is saying. There is a download for your bike and you do not need to have it dyno'd. Your stealership is trying to get you to spend money you don't need to spend. Even if you were going to get a fuel pak you still don't need it dyno'd. You can, and it will definitely make your bike run nice, but not necessary.

This is really frustrating! If I take the bike to a local recommended shop, Harley could void my 1 1/2 years left on my warranty. I'm hearing a lot of bad feedback about the Dealers' DYNO. Sounds like a profit thing for the dealer. You all agree its not needed. I just ordered the Vance & Hines 2-2 Big Radius pipes. Dealer said if I put the pipes on after I get his $850.00 work done, he'll have to do another $850.00 job for the new pipes. I'm frustrated, and dissapointed. I buy a $150.00 Stage 1 Air Cleaner, and now have to pay $850.00 to make it compatible w/ my bike. I cry FOUL!

Your engine is an air-pump, and you've modified the dynamics of the stuff that flows through it (air and fuel) by allowing more in and more out. The ECM is programmed to deliver a specific amount of fuel given the air flow that the stock filter and pipes allow. You must modify the signal sent to the injectors to richen-up the mixture. You can do this by adding a fuel management module (PC3, etc) to modify the signal sent to the injectors by the ECM, or you can have (another) dealer download a "stage 1" map, or you can buy a SERT dongle and modify the ECM with one of a variety of maps that are (or used to be) provided.
The most cost-effective method may be to buy and install a Dynojet PC3 and apply the appropriate map. You will still have a stock ECM map and can remove everything if needed.
I personally prefer updating the ECM directly with the SERT software (no after-the-fact signal interpretation) but this is an expensive and potentially frustrating solution given the diminished support provided with the SERT in recent versions, and you would probably benefit from some dyno time from an indy since you now have a link to your ECM. The stage 1 "download" is relatively generic and gets you in the right direction but is like buying a suit off the rack with no tailoring.
