Paughco Rigid? any pics
I want to convert my 03 Wide Glide into a rigid with a paughco frame but cant seem to find any Twin Cam Dyna conversion Pics to see the finished product. Thanx in advance

I don't know what you mean by "conversion pics" since Paughco makes a rigid frame for an '03 motor. You may be able to find one on Ebaymotors.com

im basically looking for someone who has converted there twin cam Dyna into a rigid with mostly stock parts off the original bike.

So, you don't really want a Paugcho frame then? You want to cut up your original frame? Why you old school, back yard welding son of a gun.  Do you know they have "swap meets" these days?

no i want to buy a frame from them... but would like to see one built and what parts it would need. they make a frame for that motor

Oh I get it now (duh).  There's alot to consider and I'm thinking your best bet would be to get with a builder. Seems certain you'd have to do some fab to use your stock rear fender. Will your frontend retrofit? There's also the main driveline components to consider. Will the selected frame mean tweaking tranny mounts and alignment? I mean; what is really going to bolt up?
Personally, I don't think you can use anything off of your Dyna expect the tank, the wheels, and the frontend. A friend of mine is a bike builder by God; I'll ask him a few questions and get back with you.

I think most would work. rear fender no biggie and prob a battery box. But front end tank etc. motor will bolt in with tranny attached and what not..But thanx let me know.

I spoke with two builders today. Both said your drive train match up will depend a number of things; like if you're going to a larger rear tire.
Paughco will want a lot of info from you to make sure you get what you want. Also, they don't custom build for every occasion. However, my friends said:
No on existing front brake cables, no on existing front brake line, clutch cable, shifter linkage, carb linkage.
No on existing rear brake assembly and linkage. Stock Rear caliper will most likely not bolt up to frame.
Normally it's a "No" on existing exhaust as well.

Sorry, but this is a bad idea for so many reasons,Even if a TC frame is available pretty much the only thing (besides engine/trans) that will "bolt on" would be the forks after you modify the stops. Everything else would need heavy modifying or tossing. You lose the resale value of your dyna, the cost of the frame, the cost of many custom parts and fabrication. What you end up with is a crappy ride from a bike thats no longer registered as a harley but instead is classified "special construction" after you go through the titling hassle/expense and pay outrageous insurance fees.

That's pretty much what I was trying to say as well. My builder friends had a few harsh words I thought I'd leave out.  But with all due respect, those two guys build custom bikes and hey, if you don't mind the expense of customizing they got no room to give you a hard time. Bottom line for me is it ain't all that simple and it's going to be more expensive as you "hit and miss" on the assembly. If you want a custom bike build one and don't worry what you can use off of your Dyna. Use the motor/tranny and put everything else aside. If, as you begin to build, you discover you already have a part you can use then that's great. But don't go into this thing believing you can use anything.

tattotod116r, Is there a reason that you want to kill a bike that you can ride anywhere and could modify heavily. Then build a bike that will cost more to insure ,is hard on your body, you will also be out of a good bike. You can buy every thing from Jerih at a reduced price and have a second bike or sell yours out right and not have to go in debt. Not that much is useable with out some welding /mechanical skills. You can buy evo motors and the drive train pretty cheap. Better ,, find a shop that builds some choppers in your area and talk to them about what you have in mind. Buy a Chopper or The Horse magazine and look at some pictures. There are some fine look'n chops made out of dyna's and sporties that still have a bit of suspention in them. OH .pauchco ain't the only good, frames out there. I would never start with my only ride , you might be a while getting it working spot on with way more money than you think.May be find a early 90 sporty or dyna to star with. You can take a 4000 dollar buel or sporty and bolt most of the parts directly on and will look and work great for under a total of 10,000 even with buy'n a sporty or buell. Check redneck engineering,atlas and several others that make bolt together kits.
