Patches and Pins
OK newbie question again. Almost a totally stupid embarrassing question this time. Mods move this to wherever you feel necessary but since I hang in the Dyna room most of the time this is where I’ll post it. Patches and Pins….. To look like a well aged seasoned Harley rider do the patches/pins go on a Leather jacket, Leather vest, Jean jacket/vest? And is there a certain place specific patches go on said jacket/vest? I’ve slowly acquired several patches and pins over time as I ride from place to place. Kind of just collected them until now. Is there a code as to where to sew them on a jacket/vest?

This is what I did
I don't wear the pins anymore, the backs kept falling off. I took them all, stuck them on a corkboard, and have them on display in my living room. As far as the patches, I had so many patches that it would cost me a small fortune to have them put on. So I taught myself to sew, and sewed them onto whatever I wanted to put them on. Screw what everyone else thinks, you are going to wear them.

Put them where you like on what you like, the only restrictions is if you're in a club. I have the same problem with pin backs falling off, but you can get "pin keepers" that work well. Right now I have all of my pins off cause sometimes I have to carry my little 3 year old and I don't want the pins to scratch her.

First off, I think you have to BE a "well aged" (whatever that means)"seasoned" rider to actually LOOK like one.
Do you want to look like "me"? At 60 years of age I'm 46 years in the wind and some would say "an embarrassment" to the newer generation of riders who wouldn't be caught dead riding with me. I pretty much fit ye old stereotype, a retired patch holder, having spent lonely times on an adventurous road, peppering my vest(s), leather and denim, with memories of the road and memorials to my friends; patches and pins. They have been preludes to white line stories to share.
I'm very old school but I don't bad mouth any generation of riders by calling 'em RUBS or YUPPIES or WANNABEES. Honestly, "old school" is old news for the most part and the lifestyle moves on in a different direction. If you're what some would call a "real biker" then you came about it honestly. And I still believe you NEED to be yourself and make your own way in the wind with your own memories and stories. And tell 'em!!! Tell your stories and speak of your road adventures with wonder and joy!!! Let if fill your life with a longing for more.
Don't pretend anything; just ride. But I will caution you only on one thing: Do not wear any club support pins, patches, or shirts if you're not a patch holder because some clubs won't differentiate between a patch holder and a civilian when it comes to "support wear" and you could find yourself up the perverbial creek.
Personally; get yourself a cut off (levi) and fill the darn thing up with all your adventures. Have a wonderful time on the road, in the wind, being yourself.
O.K. I fell off my pedestal.
Peace

There are some places that a levi jacket vest means that you are a 1%er. I would take a look around at your fellow riders and see if any are wearing those. You just might be better off with a black or brown(if you want to be different) leather vest.

If you put the U.S. flag on it must be above your left pocket and nothing can touch it or go above it,if you have a 3 piece patch on the back nothing can touch the patches but the rest is up to you,I suggest a levi with sleves cut off its easier to sew.If you belong to a club as I do they have there own rules as to what must go on or cant if you dont the only one you must follow is the american flag.

If you want to ensure that you do not "offend" anyone then just ride Naked. Brings a whole new meaning to "hair blowing in the wind.....LOL

They are called "Pin Locks" and you can find them at most bike shops or leather shops that carry biker stuff. Work wonderfully.

There are sensitivities to local clubs if what you are wearing is too close a resemblance. It may sound like paranoia, but its better to find out by asking than by wearing the wrong thing and getting rolled up for it........

First of all, check out Route66Paul's avatar - I was agreeing with what it says. Secondly, I understand "no fly" zones and area issues. But wearing a jeans vest with no club or support patches??
Guess I have a lot to learn after 42 years on a bike.

Couldn't have said it better myself, if I could have I would have!!!
To be a seasoned rider takes time.....hince the word "seasoned". Don't worry you'll get there. And I wouldn't worry about your cut being leather or denium........I've been around alot of 3 piece patch holders and they don't care if you wear a leather vest or levi vest, but like Jimmy said DON'T wear any support stuff and don't try to "pretend" to be something you're not.
