Angry ok, I'll ask...06 lowrider mini tach

I recently removed my old tach off the tank and installed a mini tach on the bars to see it better. I hooked it up as per instructions, but can't get it to read a signal. I hooked the pink signal wire to the #3 hole in the speedometer plug like instructions say and nothing...

Anyone?

Just out of curiosity, what did you put in the place of the stock tach? Did you change the console out?

I used the 08 CVO console. Fits great.

You have to get the mini tach signal from pin 3 on the ECM connector. The instructions that come with the mini tach are worthless for newer bikes. You should have a wiring harness that came with the tach that has the right terminal to plug into the ECM connector.

#3 of the ECM connector. You mean the huge grey plug at the computer?

It's not that bad to get into the connector. Someone put together a tutorial on how to do it here: http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/p...,p,173,00.html
Toward the end, there are some pics of the connector and how to get it apart and back together. There are also good instructions in the Dyna manual if you have one.

Mini Tach install.

Hi all, I am in the process of installing my mini tach that I purchased from Zannotti's harley, and was wondering do I have to drain and remove the fuel tank per the instructions? I have a repair manuel so I can do it. It just sounds like alot of extra work. I am putting it on my 08 fxdc. Thanks.

No, you don't have to take the tank off. You do have to fish the wires under the tank back to the electrical panel, but you can do that with the tank on. It's a little easier if you take the two tank bolts out and raise the tank up a couple inches. If you do raise the tank up, make sure you disconnect the gas line at the tank first. If you don't, it'll break at the throttle body.
Have they updated the instructions for the newer bikes yet where they tell you to pick up the signal at the ECM connector?

No they are pretty generic on the instructions. I did the instal, but the revs dont quite
seem to be acurate. I might try to do the pink wire to the ecm connection. I dont know what else to do. Thanks for the help.

It'll work if you get the signal from the ECM connector. I think in 04 and 05 it would work from the speedometer connector, but not now. I know a year or two ago the instructions were telling you to get the signal from the speedometer connector on 04 and later, you'd think by now they would have updated the instructions.
