117 dyno results...torque, and more torque!
We'll I just got back from my dyno tuning trip to RC Cycles in Hayward, CA and am very pleased with the finished tune on my 117 build. Final numbers rounded: 125/125 SAE
Bob took the starter map that Steve (GMR) gave me to get up there and did his magic for several hours on the dyno. It was running very rich and very lean in areas at lower RPMs which made the engine surge or hesitate at between 40 MPH and 60 MPH. Bob dialed all of this out, and tuned it through various throttle settings and loads to optimize the numbers. It was interesting to be there and watch the process. When I took it out for a test drive it pulled hard through the gears, no pinging anywhere. Bob dialed up an extra 16 lbs of torque at 2500 RPM...right where you want it on a bagger. The torque comes on early and will pull the front wheel up just by cranking the throttle. What a blast!
Bob mentioned that the slight dip in the torque curve looks just like a FatCat curve. That interesting since I'm running S&S SPO Performance Ovals...duals. I might have done a little better with 2-1 pipes but I couldn't be happier with the numbers we achieved.
05' Road King - 117" Axtel Kit, J&E Reverse Dome Forged Pistons, 10.8-1, 200/200 CCP, R&R Cast Heads, R&R CamPlate, 615/585 Gear Drive Cams, 55MM HP TB with stock injectors, D&D Dual Headpipes with S&S SPO Performance Ovals, Super SERT
Thanks to Steve at GMR and Ron and Bob at RC Cycles!

SWEEEEEEET NUMBERS MO-DOG!!!
Nearly 1.1 hp/ft lb per cube and right where you need it.
It's a beautiful thing when Product, Builder, and tuner all are on the same page and presto-A very serious bagger!!!!!
Enjoy it and keep the front tire down!!!

Thanks pw! 116lbs of torque at 2,500 rpm was more than I expected at the bottom. BTW, I see from your avitar that you CAN'T keep the front wheel down...

Mo-Dog, nice package! and nice job on the tune.
that dip at 3500 is probably a pipe interaction with the intake flow and cylinder fill. It would be interesting to put a different pipe on it and re-tune it. I would be surprised if that couldn't be improved.

...and thanks Tote for your advice on the SERT! Next, I will probably gear down the primary and leave the pipe alone...can't do a back flip yet...

$2k for the DD6 is pretty rich for me right now...I can probably do the lower gear conversion for less than $500 including new chain which means that the 6th gear would cost about $1,500..TOO much and I don't plan to cruise over 110...!..

I've got 2 rears on order at SouthWestMoto but they are on back order again. Dunlop needs to fire their production planning department...meanwhile...I plan on taking a couple of pics; screen savers...one good 2'-3'wheelie and one smoking the remnants of the rear tire I have now ...the S.O. is lined up to do the pics.. ...I'll post em soon...

You using a stock dunrock on that bad boy. Good luck and try to keep it straight.. I smoked off a metzeler in no time fast and switched to avon which sticks much better. Still doesn't last but sticks more. I have also been through the gearing and cant make up my mind either. I started off with 337, then went to 315, now i will be at 326 next week. It never ends.

With those "mods" you are planning, you better adress the poor clutch! Any plans on what clutch you want to run?

builder wants me to go with the new baker clutch. The clutch will definatly hold up and last but if i spend 1000 bucks on a clutch my marriage wont last.
already been told about spending ay more money on that bike...
you guys know the story.....

LOL. im on my third marriage. just do it mam--------

congrats on the build......you may want to consider a pipe set-up swap.....as other 117's that have run a good 2-1 pipe have posted significantly bigger torque numbers.......R&R makes good heads so i would think the heads are not the limiting factor.....maybe a pipe change can net you some nice gains. Once again--congrats!!!
