Dyno cost?
What is the going rate for dyno tuning a bike? I know it varies from location, just want to know if I'm going to get screwed or not...

Totally depends on many factors. The norm here in the NY, NJ, PA,CT area is 275-600 for full tunes. BUT, if the tune is spot on, its almost priceless.

Thunder Tower H-D near Columbia, SC charges $35 for baseline dyno run, then $70 an hour for tuning. I have a carb bike, though, so not sure about sert tune pricing.

I would expect $300-$600 as an average...quite a spread...don't assume you'll get a better tune if it costs more. Take your time choosing someone, educate yourself.

The getting screwed factor boils down to the tune. A high dollar build deserves the best tune that money can buy. I'd rather pay double the going rate, than to end up with a half a$$ed tune. Ask a lot of questions, ride the bike, and study the charts from your tune BEFORE you pay the bill.
It was a hard lesson for me!

Get a copy of the map included with the tune
Make sure the tuner agrees to give you a copy of the map before they start the job! I'd get it in writing with the format you'll get the map in - diskette, usb device, ...

thumbdrive is easier. floppys are history, cd has to be burned and will crack. the thunmbdrive in your pocket will hold the software, viewer, lots of maps , etc:

TXCHOP said it all, If you get a good tune, almost priceless! That said, if you pay $200 for a bad tune, you got screwed. If you pay $800 for an exceptional tune, you didn't get screwed at all, actually you got lucky!!

Mine cost $420 here in Missouri and, because they didn't know how to tune an 08 TBW, will end up costing me more somewhere else.

5 Questions to ask your tuner.
There's tuners and there's tooners out there.
A good tune will cost some bucks because it does take some time to do it right. But, as said above, a good tune is worth cost.
