I top qualified
Hi all, just thought i'd tell you i top qualified in Screamin Eagle Harleys, it's for street bikes need foot shift no wheelie bars, can have any size motor just need Harley Frame. we had V-Rod sporsters buell and twin cams. i was on my 01 superglide 95", track temps were cold. was not my best time but i have not been on the bike much lately and it had gas in the tank that was two months old ( yes i been lazy) i got three qualifying pass's, i also was entered in modified bike class that has race bikes but it's bracket racing too just quicker qualifying time, was useing same bike for both class's. did an 11.40 118mph then the eliminations started, i got top qualifier to race in Modified bike, was a Kawasaki race bike big slick wheelie bars air shift data loging the lot, had my friends son riding it. i eliminated him, then had to ride back and line up for first elimination for SE, on return road my bike cut out, i checked gas looked low, i restart it get to the line no time to go and fill it with gas, so i dial in a slower time, we line up and both cut good lights then at 1,000ft my motor cuts out, so i'm a first round looser in SE get back to pits take the float bowl plug on the CV51 out, turn petcock to reserve ( still use stock Petcock just no vacume cut off) not much gas coming out so we fill it up, check again still not much gas coming out and i have to get to the line soon to race second round MB, so get the hose off float bowl get a friend to suck on it ( he spat out then said blocked ) so take cap off tank tell my friend to blow on the gas hose, he blows hard then a great gush of gas comes out the top, and we have a good flow of gas out the float bowl drain hole. so up to the line to race a long low turbo busha, the trick racing a turbo is never go into stage first . we do the normal tire warm up then go to the line, he pre staged first then i pre stage i wait & wait, he stages ( i have 10 seconds to stage ) i get my revs up to 5,000 then edge up stage grab front brake keep revs up but looked at green light ( big mistake!) so i cut a .280 light get beat.
first round of the new season starts in two weeks, i'll have a pringle petcock and i'll be ready this time as i just turned 60
Cheers

sounds like the normal stuff that happens when you're racing! It's all about the adrenalin and keeping it fun.

I've ran some 11.2's with fastest speed being 121.5mph with a 1.8 60', but been spending too much time with my new GF I'm going to get to the track more for some grudge racing so i'm ready for the next meet, just cold at night here (winter) but don't ever get snow.
cheers

Lakes,
You da man!! That's good, strong racing - congrats!! LOL re the new GF!! A little preoccuppied eh?
Never thought to gut my stock petcock. Couldn't get the rebuild kit in time and so replaced it with a Pingel a while ago. Liked the look of the Guzzler, but figured it's overkill and a lot more expensive, so passed. You'll like the Pingel. Flows real well... if there's gas to begin with...
Went to Ubly last weekend with Bill, Amy & crew. Lots of faster bikes this time and larger number of experienced riders too. More Vrods than I've ever seen before and I came away impressed with how well they run. High elevens with few mods - pipe, PCIII and slick. One older guy was running very low elevens consistently, though I think he had more mods.
It's been a year since I went racing and I was rusty. Had to get the feel of the track, the tree and launching. Sleeping at the light and lost to a Vrod my first race but got him later in the day and ran an 11.7 to his 11.9. Also ran my personal best - 11.69. Still plenty to learn.
Amy ran her best of 11.8 and after a lot of headaches, Kevin with the 113 managed an 11.7. It was a strong run and he was elated. Lisa ran her best of 12.4 on her old Sportster.
It was a Harley vs the World race though - and a Suzuki drag bike won. LOL!!!
Not a lot of action at the other place lately, so glad to see you here. Best with the races... and the new GF!!

Hey Gordon, good to hear you all got to Ulby again, wish i could have been there.
Yes the V-Rod's are good, but put a Harley rider on them they do 12's put a *** bike rider on them they go quicker, as they like lots of rev's Harley riders are used to a lot less rev's. and a bit more TQ down low.
they have an easy to shift fast gearbox, and it's is not hard to do wide open clutchless shift's specialy if you have a fuel cut out hooked to your gear shift. also if you understand how to set up a race clutch you can put the same clutch as the destroyer use. the Destroyer are a great race bike that come ready to race at a good price ( ask anyone that has built there own race bike. some have stroker kits in or big bore like the destroyer. but i still like the traditional push rod
Cheers

Lakes- good to see you back on the bike and nice times as usual. Didn't think you guys would have started up again for the season. We are still about 6weeks away in Perth.

Hey Karl thanks M8, well the last round was rained out, they put it back about three weeks, so it was close to the first round of the new season.
we only have one grudge night a week here i think you guys get two each week? i think we need two as last one i went to had about 300 cars and bikes and they were turning people away about lest than half hour after gates opened, as too many.
ps, my m8 road his 2000 Duece with a 124"s&s over for the western nationals, was his first time to Perth, he road over and raced it and road back, had a bit over 8,000k round trip he has ran high tens on that and does same trap speed's as me, it just has the 124 crate heads my m8 Cow built the motor and just cleaned the heads up uses s&s G and the crate 640 cams weighs a lot too 10.9 121mph
good racer too but was a first round looser at western national's, everyone has there day.
cheers

Lakes- yes m8 we have monday and wednesday, but its break time over winter for nearly 3months. gives the boys plenty of time to complete new builds.
Wednesday night allows only 200competitiors and the gates can be shut easy half hour before racing starts. Most times hour before. Mondays is better for some reason.
Over in the States at the moment for 5 weeks and getting a few bits and peices to make my new St Glide boogy just that bit harder on the road and down the strip. Check out the Australian forum if you are not there allready.'
