Thumbs up 107ci first time down the strip.

Took the StreetBob down the 1/4 for the first time since the engine rebuild.
I think time could have been a bit better if I had a Tacho and/or shift light. The launches weren't as good as they could have been either, first time on the strip with the VPC clutch. Still not sure what revs to use. Any 1/4 people out there, would love to here any input into how to get these HD's off the line a bit quicker. Had a great time though, got six passes in, with the attached sheet the best time for the night. I got the bug now, there's a 103ci StreetBob around here runn'n 11.2's, would love to here advice before we meet up at the All Bike Drags next month.
Horsepower it's addictive for sure.LOL.
Here's a link to an ealier run.

Stay Safe out there.

PS. My time is on the left (11.740), rice burner on the right

Cheers C-Cat, that run on video gave me a 12.005@108mph.
Motor=107 JE pistons, R&R Cast Heads, HPI 55mm t/body, GMR rollers, Andrews 60H chain drives. Stock bottom end, everytime it's been checked runs .003, SE tapered p/rods.SERT. No tune to speak of, only what I have done myself.
Just feel with the right advice I could get the 60foot time down a tenth or three.

stay away from the ambulance and practice on the lights will help that launch--------------which looks good on video. go to test and tune at 1/8 mile track to keep running back around to stage again and again.

oh, get some struts!

Those are great times. +1 on everything said about the launch. When I can get a 1.7, 60" I run my best times.

every tenth in the 60 saves 2 tenths at the other end. set the clutch up soft for the vpc to hold at say 4500 or so, launch around 3500 easing out on the clutch, don't dump it, giving it the throttle while easing out. takes practice. also work on upshifts without the clutch, hold shifter up with foot and blip the throttle. this will bang the next gear, faster you can do that the more et you'll save. give it hell!!!!

Cheers all. I got six passes in, the 60 foot times were mostly 1.8's with two 1.9 passes. Although launches were okay, I reckon there's more to be gained there, will try the higher revs and less clutch and see how it goes.

Stix-
Good starting point!
OK Dragracing 101...

1. Are you heating the tire in the burn out box? Do your burn out in 3rd gear and get it hot and sticky.
2. What rear tire? What tire pressure?
3. You are leaving the line with your body too upward-get your body weight forward alot more (weight transfer).
4. You have to launch at higher revs-I can hear you feathering out the clutch-which is good and shows some skill but...with that VPC it will act a little like a lock up so leave the line alot harder-As FX said let the clutch slip a bit at first and set it up so the VPC takes over and does the rest. I want to see that front tire off the ground! Untill you get the fear of God in you that you may flip it, then you can back it up a bit! You are no where near there yet. If you spin the tire with the increased rpms, you need to keep dropping rear tire pressure and getting it stickier to hook up (For example, I left the line so hard at a race on Qualifying day a couple years ago that the front tire came up and then the REAR tire came off the ground and the guys staging behind me said they could stuff a pack of cigarettes under the rear tire). When you are skimming the front tire off the ground and at least get 1.60's 60 ft times then you know you are on the right track-
5. A said by Dennis, can you stiffen up you shocks or get struts? You bike is sagging at launch-that is wasted energy and wasted time.
6. A drag race is a violent explosion at the line-You and the bike are LAUNCHING yourself forward-so get ready to practice banging your gears at FX said or get an electric shifter. 2nd gear comes at you faster than a speeding bullet....
7. You don't need a tach but get a shift light-find out on a good dyno or more track time the powerband of your bike and set up the shift light to come on 400 rpm before peak power to allow you react and bang the next gear when that light comes on.
8. Sounds like you are doing this-the most important point..HAVE FUN!!!

P.S. I want you to kick that 103" Streetbob's AZZ!!! How bad do you want it???

Cheers PW, got a PM from a member yesterday talkin' about tire pressure, I was runn'n road pressure,37psi to be exact. So I'll be on top of that for sure next time. Burnout a couple of times, but still had to ride home on that tire. Weakass burnouts at best. When I didn't burnout, was break'n traction just before first gear change. My shocks are real stiff on lowest setting, might just adjust the preload to max and see if that helps, if not, real easy to make a set of struts up. Am already look'n at a shift light, thanx to another forum member here, current cam setup feels like they need to be close to peak RPM all the time, I'm guessing around 6200rpm would be the ideal shift point for the bike.
Really appreciate the advice.
Stix.

stix, a 1.80 60 footer your first day? man, you got skills!!!!! you will be in the 1.50's in a couple more.

i have a dyna also. you do need the ass end as stiff as you can get it. after the launch, when the chassis tries to settle, it wonts to lever the rear tire upwards. have broken loose many times in third because of this. and everytime it breaks loose, the bike tries to go hunch the ambulance again. embarrassing---and slow.

Yup, Sputhe boxes. I run the S&S Billet Boxes now. The Sputhes were a pain to adjust the valves with the Huge spring pressures.
