went to the drags yesterday

I went to an eighth mile track with some friends yesterday. It was the first time I'd seen bike races in many years. It was 90% japanese, but there were a few h-d's. One guy had a tc wideglide and ran a 7.3 @ 92. How much power does that take? What would it take to put a dyna in the sixes?

Hi Skyhook, i have an 01 FXD 95" and get to track as often as i can.
i run between 11.2 and 11.6, depends on a few things but 11.6 would be a 1.8 60', 11.2 a low 1.6 60'. half track would be between 7.1 & 7.3, mostly my half track speed would be 97mph on average. i think i have about 105 to 110HP just have not had on dyno lately. i think the rider makes a lot of difference. as will depend more on how quick you can do the 60', and how quick you can shift, miss one gear shift and can kill your time. also would depend on bike and rider weight, but think about 110HP to 115hp could do 6 in 1/8th mile, this is as you ride it on street, with a good set of wheelie bars could do 6, 1/8th mile with less HP, thats if you know how, some go no quicker with or with out wheelie bars.
have a go it's fun, just don't try too hard as you go slower when you try too hard.
PS. thought i had better add, i'm useing 6 loosely, like i mean 6.9 or better, that is still closer to a 7 than a 6.

good luck

our 99 103" dyna would run 6.5-6.6 making 128ftlbs 125+ hp but we would spin the tire off the the line to slow it down to that

That was with a 5" slick, pingle air shift, line lock and wheelie bars. I don't have a clear recollection on the 60' times but would guess around 1.3 - 1.35 sec range. The pro mod 60' times are 1.22 and I can't believe it is close to that. The 1/4 mile times were 10.50's at 122 mph, don't remember half track data.

Hey Otto - I got the Deuce transmission in Saturday and the thing runs great, thanks!

Only one problem with it - the reverse gear doesn't seem to work!

Thanks Tote, they are good times for a 103" twin cam!
i'm still trying to get my times down on my 95",had a lot of rain, and when we get a fine wednesday night,we finish up with 200 cars and about 50 bikes so don't get enough pass's to tune & i'm useing the s&s D on the 95" so it likes rev's.will be at track tomorrow night so will see how i go,have some s&s main jets it's got one TJ,intermediate seems ok i just leave air bleed and TJ and work with main to see what gives highest trap speed, but makes it harder getting used to the new set up when your tuning.
but if it was easy, i would not be doing it, like things hard.
cheers

Best 1/8 mile setup as follows
60' 1.439
1/8et 6.313
1/8 mph 105.58

we where running a 6.70 index class with that bike so we usually killed the et in the first 60' with tire spin
