The Ultimate Doof Loop
I'm gonna do it this year.
It's been more than 2 years since my Sister and BIL moved out to Corvallis, Oregon. I have not yet been out there to see them. That's changin this summer.
I'm not one for planes, nor do I like long car rides. I can't stand the smell of trains, and I'm not gonna go through the Panama Canal just to reach the left coast. I'm gonna ride. But Corvallis isn't gonna be my destination. My destination is gonna be right where I sit now. Back home. Doing a complete Doof Loop of the country. Some may call it a Four Corners Ride, but I'll refer to it as "The Ultimate Doof Loop".
I've said for the past year that I'd like to see if Doc could tune my bike for me. That way I know it'd be done right. I'll have to get in touch with him and see if in fact he still does that. If not, oh well, I'd like to see the Everglades anyway.
Little Bear has offered on numerous occasions to show me some good riding out Texas way. It's time I quit saying someday, and start saying "I'll be there this day".
Mom and Pop just got back from San Diego, and they love it out there. It's time for me to see just what all their crowin is about, and maybe stop and have a brew with 8-Ball.
Maybe then I'll mosey on up the coast to Corvallis. I'll stop and visit, help out around my Sis's house with some projects my BIL needs some assistance on, and then shove off for the remainder of the Doof Loop.
Family friends live in Washington, so I could stop by there to say hello to them, then start heading east. Many time's I've wondered if you could get a good burrito in Xenia? Maybe I'll have a chance to find out.
The last place I've thought of making a definite destination is Big Boyz shop. I wanna see just what it is that's goin on up there. Maybe I'll get the chance.
Then, after what I figure will be a month (at least) on the road, I'll be back home. Hopefully with lots of stories of meeting Doofs along the way, pictures of sights I thought I'd never see, and memories that'll last me a lifetime.
I have yet to figure a date to leave, but I'm thinking sometime in early July. If any of you Doofs have a destination that I shouldn't miss, let me know.
Only failing health, or a letter from the state offering employment can stop me now, and I doubt either one will happen. Till then, I'll be here, preparing, dreaming, mapping, and posting stupid comments.
Carry on.

Darrell,
Al has it right... if you're doing it, come to the Colorado Doofapalooza (June 28 - July 9)...!!!! LittleBear will be there.
We can ride back to San Diego via the four corners, grand canyon, Route 66, Oatman, Lake Havasu.... You can stay here.... I've got no bedrooms, but I got one of those comfy air mattresses from Costco.

I may be able to catch the end of the Doofapalooza. I may be able to catch the beginning. I won't know until probably the beginning of June. Time will tell if I'm able to make it to CO while the Doofs are there.
Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with as many of you Doofs as possible. That is the whole point of the trip, anyway.

I was plannin to extend my trip and take the southern route to Oregon from southern CA. You know, Antartica can be a beautiful place to see on a bike.
Yeah, I'll be headed north through CA from San Diego area.
As the time nears, my plans will become clearer. Right now I'm just in the inital planning stages, which means I have no idea what I'm doing just yet.

Darrell, did somewhat of a 4 corners a he!! of a lot of years ago but in a car. No Interstates/Turnpikes past Chicago then until you got to the west coast. Went out the northern route from Cleveland to Olympia, WA, down the coast to L.A. then the old Rt. 66 back to St. Louis and then back to Cleveland. Took three weeks with several 500 mi. days. Not enough page to list all that is there to see and do. Just know that it is the "Once in a lifetime" kind of thing that if you have a chance to do....TAKE IT!
