Route 66 and Doof....
Route 66...the Mother Road......
Back in 1928, there were people who were interested in promoting the route. One idea that actually came about was a footrace that went from Santa Monica to New York City, with the S.M.-Chicago leg being along the actual 66 route.
275 people entered. At the end of the first day, 77 people dropped out, the second day 12 quit, with another 18 on the 3rd day. Only 70 reached Chicago, and 55 actually finished the race in New york.
Around the Texas panhandle, a 23 year-old part Cherokee farm boy named Andrew Hartley Payne began to emerge as a solid contender, and in fact after 87 days he won the race finishing hours ahead of the other runners.
The race covered 3,422.3 miles in 573 hours of actual running time. With the $25,000 prize, Andy paid off the mortgage on his parents farm.
The number he wore on his running singlet?
43

Kevin Tighe who played Roy DeSoto in "Emergency" starred in "Road House" as the owner (Frank Tilghman) of the Double Deuce bar and dance hall located in Jasper, Missouri. Jasper is approximately ten miles north of where Route 66 ran through Missouri. Today there is a bar called the Double Deuce in East St. Louis, just a few miles from old Route 66.
Sam Elliott played Wade Garrett in Road House...... He could kick a$$ for an old guy

Bobby Troop: He was a jazz musician/actor who was married to Julie London, both starred on the 70's hit show Emergency. He wrote the song "Get Your Kicks On Route 66".

Ding-ding-ding-ding.....
Ladies and Gents, we have a winner.
Now for bonus points can you tell me what prompted him to write it?
BTW, Troop played Dr. Joe Early.

Bobby Troup (not Troop) wrote "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66" after driving the highway himself to get to California where he had dreams of making it big in music. The first day out, Bobby and his wife Cynthia stopped at a Howard Johnson's near Pittsburg. Cynthia suggested that Bobby write a song about US 40. Bobby didn't see any point to it, because they were about to go on US 66 soon. Cynthia laughed and said "Get your kicks on Route 66!". Troup hearing this then simply wrote what came to mind as his car meandered over the bumpy road. He presented it to Nat King Cole who in turn made it one of the biggest hit singles of his career.

Yah, I know, you said Bobby was not Julie's first husband. I was saying Julie was not Bobby's first wife.
