On the hunt
Took the day off today. Went to our place to hunt. There was a pretty nice buck that came out late, but it is early in the season there will be another time to take one. If I had harvested this deer then I know that I will not go much anymore and I do enjoy the ride there and the experience of the hunt each year. Maybe I won't get another chance at a buck like this one, but that's OK. I hunt for the meat and the time alone to just watch afternoons in autumn pass slowly.
What I did see and could not have shot it anyway was a big pack of turkeys. They came to what I call the No. 1 feeder. There were 14 hens and 1 tom. There is no way I could have shot this wild Thanksgiving tom. I don't have it in me to take that lucky guy out. Most times there are 2-4 jakes and toms that pass by where I sit. Today he had the ladies all to himself. Maybe I thought he had his hands full with 14 of em to be worrying about me. They are excellent table fare, but sometime you just have to smile and let em draw a pass.
