Merch Motors Co.

If your looking at a aftermarket engine, save yourself the aggravation.

according to this site, Merch parts have been discontinued, so you would be buying old stuff.

No, they are up and running "Again" in Ft. Collins Col. under Merchmotors.com
My bike developed a ticking sound at around 30-40,000km. When I took it to my local HD dealer they pulled the front jug. You could get a 1/8" play when you puledl up on the rod!.So now it's time to contact Merch about the problem. I fire off a email to them including the serial # and they contact my dealer with a offer to take the motor back on trade for a new 124"(which I was advised was a dog motor) or they would redo mine for $2000us if I send it to them. So I call around about shipping, border fees, exchange etc and thats a extra $1000. So I contact Merch again(on my dime, no 1-800# figures!) and discuse options. When I say how about just supporting me with the parts instead they agree that would be a option. I figure ok fair enough, since I'll be paying all the labour, better than nothing. Then I talk to my dealer and tell him to tear the engine down and get started.

Now this is the rub. He sends the rods to them for rebuild since there a special type manufactured by them. When my dealer discusses the other parts needed for the rebuild(pump, pistons, cam etc they are not really saying weather they will be sending them back with the rods of not. I then fire off another email to clear this up with no reply?. I go to me dealer a couple days later for a progress report and he tells me that they're not covering anything!!!!!!wtf. Gerry at Merch tells him the engine is to old to cover.(even after they had the ser# in the original email). So now they talk to my dealer(not me of course) and tell him the rods are going to be shipped back last Friday. This Wednesday I go in for a progress report and he tells me they still haven't shipped the rods back!!. He say's they won't ship them without payment, but don't know the exact amount yet. So my dealer finally gets the amount and they don't take Visa!!!!!!!!!! you'll have to send a cheque through before will ship them. A whole $185 wow! so now were on hold again.
What a bunch of BS

Man, thats sad to hear.
My custom has a Merch 120 and it's bullet proof.
Their build quality was great, it's probably that their stuff was too expensive.
O ringed motors aren't cheap.
Sound like they are half ass'ing it now.
Real sad ending to a formerly great motor shop.

Is there anyone that will back anything that old and with that many miles?

Especially if it's a high squeeze motor that has been properly used.....

Thats kilometers... and the whole point is, you don't tell your customers your going to help and then pull the rug out..makes for poor customer relations. IMO
