Advanced Carbon Composites
Last summer I bought a DOT-legal carbon fiber half helmet from ACC (Head Trip Helmets). I thought I measured my head right, and ordered a medium based on their chart. After a couple of rides, I stopped wearing it due to the fit and its tendency to lift at highway speeds.
I figured I was out the cost of the helmet.
I read a few posts here and elsewhere about ACC reshaping their helmets for those of us with less-than-round heads. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I emailed them to see if they could do anything with mine. They asked me to re-measure my head and send the helmet back. Turns out my head was at the largest point a medium would work on, so they suggested a reshaped large with a different strap.
I sent the helmet back to them on February 21, the new helmet was on my doorstep yesterday when I got home from work.
This kind of customer service is rare. ACC sells expensive helmets, and it's good to know that they appreciate their customers. When the time comes for me to replace this one, I know who I'll be calling.

Have to agree with this. I had the same issue as you did, and sent the helmet back. Very prompt and courteous service. Nothing but good things to say about them....

OK...I give up...
What measurements do they need & how did you take them?

Cloth measuring tape around your head above your ears across forehead and back of head at widest point. Have help. The first time I did it I used an extension cord, then measured from the end to where my fingers were. Close, but not close enough apparently.
If your head is round, the standard helmet will fit fine. If your head is oval, you'll need to ask ACC to reshape it for you. If you're not sure what shape your head is, ask someone (and don't hit them when they start laughing at your questions).

Glad to hear that. I just ordered one from them this afternoon. I got the extended half helmet in flat black. I'm thinking of calling them tomorrow and switching it to the black candy.
My head measures 23.5" and I got a large. We'll see how it fits.

I don't remember what my head measured, but I think it was at the limit of what constituted a medium. The large fits perfectly. I've got the candy black. It's a really god looking lid.

I live about 10 miles from them, I went in and got the helmet, I didn't have time to have them shape it. So they showed me how. Pretty simple really. I love it and it fits like a glove. One of the guys I work with part time went up with his old one to see if they could fix the strap and they gave him a new one,,,no charge.

Put it in an oven set @ 300° for about 10-15 minutes, pull it out (obviously it's hot) and what I did was put a towel over my head, put it on without the cushions and shape it as needed, you put a clamp of some sort to hold it in that shape. Let it cool a couple hours and your done. The helmet becomes somewhat pliable when hot, and it won't hurt the finish. BUT that was with the old hard style foam DOT, with the removable cushion inside (2005). I believe the newer ones have a different style foam/cushion. FWIW. Jody
