Dyno - Doing It Right - Ozark Harley Davidson vs Cyclerama
Long story - short:
Had tuning issues with my 2008 FLHT following a 103" build, so I took the bike to Ozark Harley Davidson in Lebanon, Missouri for a dyno inquiry. Ozark HD guys said they've been dyno tuning for at least 8 years and have seen/done everything. They told me tuning my bike would not be difficult, but considering my 103 build that I would need a "custom" tune and it would take all day.
So, on August 14, 2008, I took the bike to Ozark HD. Picked it up a couple days later and paid $429 for the tune (chart attached). Bike checked out at 98hp and 103tq.
After riding a bit, I noticed the bike still had deceleration popping and didn't quite run right. I called Ozark HD and got the service guy, who handed the phone off to "Jim". Jim wasn't the most friendly guy and I could tell was getting a bit offended that I was having some trouble with their tune. Jim stated my problem was the build components not the tune. He said he was there during the tuning of my bike and they couldn't figure out why the bike ran better at 80% throttle than at 100%. I asked if I could bring the bike in again and Jim reluctantly agreed stating 'i can't promise anything'.
Jims response made it clear Ozark HD either didn't want to spend the time getting it right or (and more likely based on the conversation) didn't know how. I decided not to go back.
In October, I went to Daytona for the biketoberfest and made an appt to have the bike re-tuned in Tampa by Cyclerama, the guys that I bought the 103" upgrade from.
On October 15, 2008 I dropped the bike off at Cyclerama at 10am, picked it up at 3pm, and paid $375 for the tune (chart attached). Bike checked out at 110hp and 114tq.
NOTE!! The ONLY difference between these dynotuning jobs is who did it.
Moral of the story: DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
I was in a hurry, excited with my new build, and Lebanon Missouri was 1 hr away vs. 17 from Tampa. I should have waited.
Got to mention that Wes Brown and his wife Pam from Cyclerama were VERY nice and helpful. Real pro's.
