Thought I'd share this. I went to my local dealer yesterday to have my '08 SG fuel cannister recall done before I hit the road for the west coast next Tues. manager say's they have to take a look before they make the repair to see if it actually needs to be replaced.

The repair should only take aprox., (say's service mgr.) 30-40 min. About an hour later,
the service manager comes out say's he's taking the bike for a quick test ride. So far so good.

He comes back and say's look we have a little problem and that one of his tech's had let a wrench slip while doing the repair and there's a DENT and SCRATCH in your tank. He apologizes and states they are going to replace the tank, mail it to a local dealer in Sacremento (that's where I'm headed) and pay the local dealer to install. I agree with the remedy and go on about my business. Now if this all goes to plan, that's good service. I'll wait and see. Meantime the scratch and dent add some character.

I saw a good one a few years ago. This happened in the parking lot outside the shop where there were about 50 or 60 people watching (it was the starting point for a poker run).
It seems that a guy had bought a gas cap for the left side of a dual fill tank, and somehow in the manufacturing, the ratchet teeth on the cap were the ones for the right side cap. So the cap screwed in just fine, but he couldn't get it out. It just clicked.
The technician figured he'd squeeze the outer cap against the part that acturally screwed in, and that would enable him to get it out. So, he comes out with this humongous water-pump pliers and grabs the cap with it. You'd have thought the cap had been put in with locktite the way he was grunting and groaning. Anyway, the pliers slipped off, and Screeeeeeeee, right across the whole top of the tank, leaving a huge scratch, down to the metal, across the whole length of the tank. This, in front of everybody! You never heard so much cursing! The shop made good, of course, but everybody was blaming everybody else, from the manufacturer to the seller, to the person who screwed it on, to the guy in the parking lot.
