Internet shops and Harley shops...

Many of my Buds complain about some bigger internet stores prices, but at least the one I mainly shop at lets you know if they even have the product IN STOCK!! How many here have bought things from shops, and paid for the products ... then find out after you've paid. The product is not only in stock, but may take 4-6 weeks to get!!!
Also, I had a shop convince me in buying another brand of third party parts for my bike ((( because that's what they work with )))... and also quoted me a price to install... When to bring my bike in and when it'd be done. Well... right now they're $227 over the quoted $250 'verbal quote' and it's not to be ready for 6 days more after the date they told me it would be done.

Hope I'm not sounding like a complainer, but I run a business to ((not bike oriented)) and if I give a customer a price and due date... man I'm going to hit it. Even if it means some overtime. What can I do {legally} to have the verbal quote stand? They said they needed a longer brake line that they had to order, and it raised the price. GawdDamn what kinda' brake line is this?

I agree with Springer; and, if the manager doesn't give you the answer you wanna hear ask for their boss. Keep going all the way up the chain until you've reached the top. Everyone has a boss. Politely demand that they stay within their quote, then when you retreive your scoot let them know that "word of mouth advertising" carries a lot of weight.

Yes, the shop Manager/ Owner is the one who quoted me the price. I'll stop in there tomorrow and see just how far they are and what is the problem. I've know of places that do this... but it's usually for a part they broke while installing and have to order a newer one {sometimes trying to put some of the cost on the customer!}

I always inquire about inventory before I order anything....if I get no response from one vendor, I go to another...

Well ... the shop owner gave me a 25 minute reason for the extra costs. And I gave him a 30 minute lecture about his quote! Final cost was no where near the quote, but he did knock off some of his labor costs .... and I told him I hope their workmanship is way way way better than his estimates/ quotes! Is this the norm?
Bottom line, my scoot is back, it looks great, I didn't lose my temper and I'm not in Jail!!!

I don't mind buying things from the dealership, if they have it in stock. If they have to order it... then I'll order it from an online retailer. With the cost of gas (40 mile round trip) the cost of shipping and a 20% discount makes up the difference quick.
