Sure the lack of a timken bearing is the biggest issue, if the bike is very little money then grabit and go from there. Myself could never buy somthing like that on e-bay with hearing it , compression test, leak down, and so on. But hey what ever floats your boat.
If you are tapped out for money and cannot afford to have any major repair done then you know what you have to do.

110 se comments
Have a 110 that was replaced due to pinion shaft failure.
Customers replacement engine after 8 months now when throttled sounds as if the timing has changed (even see cam gear slip on the cam ? - not 110 as it has different cams) bangs and backfires.
cams are in time - no chain problem - has endentures on the oil pump vane & rotor - no codes - acts just as if the flywheels have shifted causing timing to change. when the 110 emblem is looked at the rear cyl emblem is 3 times as dark as the front cylinder. anyone else having an issue like this ?

Which cometic gasket kit # did he use ?
Thank you

While this is a older thread just want to mention FWIW zero issues with the '07 FLHRSE3 110" here. Has been a perfect and awesome bike. I'm not the only one with no problems. Would buy the bike again without hesitation. Have owned many H-D's over the years with different engines. This one is light years ahead of the others.

110 motor problems
Yall are killin me! I have an 07 SE Dyna, and have around 2600 miles on it, I am guilty of ridin it fast sometimes. I have not had any problems with it, seems to run well, except the gearing it not good. I hope I am not going to have an expensive mess on my hands.

Cvo Springer
I Have a CVO Springer that has 9000 miles on it. I ride it like I stole it. It is stock execpt rush slip-ons. I haven't had any trouble with it. And I can't tell any difference in noise between this bike and my last one, it was 04 springer

110 Motor
Well just came in from garage and noticed oil spray around the rear cylinder. I thought our bike would be immune to the head gasket issue but WHAM, just turned the clock at 8154 miles. I hope that is all that is wrong with the engine. While I have it in for service I will try to have the other broken things fixed at the same time. Heated hand grips -dead, Kickstand rattles when in up position very loose, Excessive valve noise, Steering clunks when I go over bumps.
Should have kept my 2000 Ultra, 60K miles and never a problem, and it was paid for.

Not Again!
Here is the update to my previous post. Had the new gasket replaced at 8K+ miles and other stuff fixed(or so I thought). When the dealer fixed the hand grips they screwed up my radio buttons and alarm went dead (light stayed on). Took it back to have the right hand radio button repaired and found a (pinched wire?) said it was OK now. On the way home I found the left radio button malfunctioning. I said to my self I would fix it this winter at home. Well 2000 miles later the rear cylinder started leaking again from the top and this time from the bottom too. New dealer said the gasket blew again and this time the cylinder sleeve looks like it moved also. New cylinder has been on order for about 2-3 weeks now and I'm still waiting but I really don't care for now cause it is snowing here anyway and I just consider it free winter storage. I guess this spring is going to be like a new bike again with maybe the same old problems. I guess HD thinks CVO's touring idea is to tour from dealer to dealer till the warranty runs out!
Insanity is when you do the same thing over and over and expect different results.
Ride on!

Just for my .02. I've got approx. 5k on the engine before it got replaced with a new engine. I've got 500 miles on the new engine, but now the bike just goes dead. From looking at other sites, it appears that the 110 has many problems as listed here in this thread. I know of guys that are on their 2nd and 3rd motors. Might be a long haul and for once the warranty is important!
Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Of, course my bike is still in the shop with electrical problems now. But that's another story!

I got 3673 miles on her when the rear head gasket started weeping on my 08 SE Road King. Doing a motor upgrade this winter so I replace the HD head gaskets and hope for the best. If I can make the motor reliable, this is the best Harley I've owned to date. 7th Harley since 1984. I still have the 84 FXRS.

Another update on our bike. Had the rear head gasket done before last Christmas and now have put 16K on the clock. Bike has been running OK with no oil leaks. It appears as though the dealer put cometic gaskets on because I cannot see any thing but metal between the cylinder and head. Had to have the race tuner reloaded because the tech at the original dealer reset the ECM? Have been putting off a dyno tune till I get the darn thing running without leaks.
I now understand there is a product enhancement letter going out to all 110 owners before a certain build date to correct the valve guides and the ACR's.
Overall it has been a pretty good summer so far, and we still love the bike!
