Ultima frame chop build

Most excellent post of your progress....I havent built a chop in awhile, but another is coming in the future. I want more of a Pro-street style frame, but basically the same as your are doing, in a Softail model. I like some of the enginuity of using the lift for the motor install, great idea, and making the brackets and such. Very nice.

Glad to hear it. Will you feel it? Hell yeah... that's the point of riding. I have more fun on the rigid bikes I've built than I ever had on a store bought motorcycle.

Funny you mention that. I still have a few parts to take to the powder coater- I was thinking about doing the clutch springs in red, and leaving the cover off.

Well I found some time this weekend and got a couple of hours in the workshop. Started running some wiring- Mostly the power feed from battery through main 30A circuit breaker, then to ignition switch and back to fuse box for distribution. The turn signal relay and an auxiliary power strip are in place but nothing hooked up yet. Here’s what it looks like roughed in under the seat:

Also started bolting on miscellaneous bling parts. Ignition module cover- Not on yet is the air cleaner cover, it is red as well.

Roughed in some wiring for the ignition module, neutral light, oil pressure idiot indicator, and the starter relay harness. It is hanging loose until I am ready to sleeve and terminate it. Also, I bolted on the belt nose guard and starter shaft cover, both PC’ed black. The clutch basket cover is still with the powder guy; unfortunately he is re-doing it to fix a slight flaw… Coil cover and ignition switch is loosely attached so I can continue the wiring work

The front end parts are all done and ready to assemble. Maybe next weekend I can get the rear wheel on and then start dealing with the front end.

Picked up the sheet metal a few days ago. Couple of shots of the fender sitting on the bench:


Got the tank mounted on the frame- its not permanent yet as I still need to run some wiring in the tunnel.




Also installed the rear wheel:

Over the weekend I hope to make some progress on the wiring- Going to install the tail light and plate bracket on the fender and build up the fender wiring harness- and maybe get the fender on.

Well I got the front end on over the weekend. Didn't take a picture from far enuff back to see the what the whole thing looks like, but here's the left side.

Will hopefully get some time this weekend to install the front brake and wheel, and maybe get the rear fender wired up and mounted.

Didn’t get a lot of time this weekend to work on the chop but managed to get a few hours to tinker a bit. Used a couple of brackets I made a while back. For the headlight, I started with a chunk of 1” thick billet- drilled ½” hole to locate the inside corner. You can see the pencil line where the cutting happened afterward:

After some bandsawing, drilling, filing, buffing, I had this all ready for the powder coater:

Still need to polish the SS hardware but it holds the headlight up ok.

Here is the horn- to the right is the bracket that came with it, but I really needed a right-angle bracket. I made the one on the left from a piece of steel flat bar, using a bender to make the 1” radius bend:

Horn installed, the wiring is dangling for now.

And, finally got the front wheel installed:
