new to choppers

Hey guys just found this site and im loving it , I just purchased recently a "05 AIH Texas Chopper with the 111 SS engine , this past week I decided to have a custom paint job done to it and Im very good friends with the painter well the day I was there when the diassemble was going on we took the oil tank off and let me just say the oil was VERY VERY black which has me puzzled because the bike doesnt have 350 miles on it since I had a full service done to it with synthetic fluids ..so now im sitting here really pissed because that oil didnt look just 350 miles old ..so now Im questioning the shop , I just went and picked up some 20w50 synthetic oil from the HD shop and now ive got a couple question ..
1. I bought 4 qts of oil but the parts guy said it should just hold 3qts but it always good to have an extra just in case ..is this correct ?
2 . Could someone tell me what type of oil filter this bike needs ?

Thanks for any help I grew up on sport bikes so this is my first experince with a Vtwin and im loving it just a little let down with the shop that done my service

claydbal will become famous soon enough
typical, overcarbed or overjetted makes the oil turn black (dark). usually improperly jetted because of centerfold pipes. i got a mailing a couple years ago that they were selling tons of D and D fatcats for $150 each. the reason? because most customers wanted bad pipes installed and the fatcats were take-offs!!!!! i didint buy any because they lacked o2 bungs.

Most Harley's require 4 quarts, so you can add 3 and check the dipstick, then add more if needed. The 84-99 S&S motor uses a 31-4102 chrome or 31-4101 black oil filter. Here's the S&S website if you need any more parts or info.
