Speed Sensor - spacer needed?

I have a 2004 custom chopper (midwest choppers frame to start) with a Jims 6-speed. I just bought a Drag Specialties 1 7/8" speedometer and am going to connect it to a Dakota Digital transmission speed sensor. When I go to put the speed sensor into the transmission, it seems that there it goes about 3/4 the way in the hole and then stops (about where the gasket is on the speed sensor). This leaves about an 1/8" space and the sensor doesn't fit down snuggly to the transmission - doesn't seem right? I have heard/read about using a "spacer" that came with the Jims transmission when installing the sensor. I bought the bike used so I don't have it. Should I try and tap the sensor down inot the hole (I don't think it's going to go in any farther) OR is there a spacer I can buy somewhere?

Thanks!

You can buy spacers in different sizes at the hardware store. Find one that is the size you need or modify one to fit.
