S & S 111, AIH Tx Chopper
OK...I admit it...I look alot, but never post because I have never had a problem until now...I am a bit perplexed at this moment.
04 AIH Tx Chopper, never had a problem, even speedo, and now its pissing me off. I can run her up in temp and ride for 30 mins or so and it starts cutting out. The electrical power craps out too, so there is not a fuel issue. It will cut out, and the instrument cluster goes out, headlight, the whole shootin' match. It will always start up once it quits though...I cruise to the side of the road and restart it...good to go for a mile or a football field...I never know.
I have combed over the wiring, battery terminals, dual coil plugs are secure, etc...I am up in the air...Love the bike, but I am out of fixes...ignition module?...coils taking a crap?...crank positioning sensor?...
I am indebted before an answer even arrives...thanks folks!

Start at the beginning
Since you are losing everything it has to be electrical. Start from the beginning. Go to the 30amp circuit breaker and bypass it, if it still acts up, go next to the key switch and check for loose wires inside and make sure all the plugs are seated and corrosion free. It could be any of the above. The main breaker could be bad and only showing up after the bike is hot, same with the switch. Follow you main wires, look for a short that could be killing the main circuit - from the breaker, from the regulator or from the key switch. Hope this helps and let us know what happens.

Great Maxx...I will be looking into that...I have taken the tank off and started tracing wires. I have taken out the key switch and things look good there, and I will be moving to the circuit breaker today and looking into it. I will keep everyone posted, as I know this has been discussed ad nauseum. I may end up rewiring it, but I dont really want to. However, if I do, I might just take the whole bike apart and send it off for some sick ass paint (and miss the best riding weather of the year). More a bit later

Dont know if it has a dash like on the stock softails, but I had the same problem and the 4 inline pin connector that went to the key switch vibrated off just enough to break contact every now and then.

Had a similar problem with my 2o04, turned out to be the key/switch. Got a new one, no problem.

i fixed this same problem on a chopper a couple years ago. think it was AIH, maybe a big dog? anyway, it was the circuit breaker. had to remove the starter to get to it!

I had an identical fault with an 04 TX Chopper.
Replaced the keyswitch with a new one from local locksmith. Fault fixed. Hope this helps.

Slow & Low,
You can also go to www.bigdogbiker.com . There are guys there too that are great service techs who will help. I know its a Big Dog Chopper site, but there are quite a few guys that have AIH bikes on there too, and they can walk you step by step. Just make sure you introduce yourself first in the introductions section. Then ask for help...... Our Big Dogs are a lot like your bike. It never hurts to ask as many people as you can. Someone might have the fix for your exact issue.
