88" S&S. info?

i just bought a custom. it has an 88 s&s on it. that i must say, runs really good! how can i find more info on it? i went to s&s site but it was vague. i'd like to get a manual. i snapped a primary belt and went through hell trying to find another one. also, how can i find out what frame i am riding on? i know it's a rigid. does that mean it is after-market?

First off, you did not give us any numbers that you might have found. second - since there have been many commercial frames made and many more custon frames done, It is veryhard to tell with just a picture. didn't you get any info when you bought it?

from the looks of the neck and rear axle area, I will take a guess that the frame was made by Paughco. Call Paughco with the number off the neck and they should be able to say if it is theirs or not.

As for the engine, untill the last couple of years S&S did not sell complete Panhead engines. They did sell allot of parts used to build them though. You will not find a manual from S&S on the 88" Pan. It does not exist. What you can find are instruction sheets for almost every component in that engine. S&S instruction sheets are perhaps more detailed than any manual Harley ever made.

Your bike may have been put together by a manufacturer, but more likely by a shop or an individual. It probably has many parts from several year groups (like the late model EVO Softail rear brake caliper it has).

This forum is a tremendous volume of knowledge and has hundreds of very knowledgeable members that will help you. Use the search button and ask specific questions that you cannot find answers for.

Welcome to the forum.
