Best Kit/Roller Company to deal with

Going to do a chopper project this winter with my nephew. Every place I look seems to be going out of business or sold the name to someone now using it on china crap.

Who is left that makes a great roller kit, not afraid to pay for quality. A company most likely still to be here in a couple years.

Had my eyes on a sweet Santee 250 softail frame sitting at a local independent, it's probably 4 or 5 years old so it's the real deal not just the name. Thing looks beefy as heck, awesome welding...

That's what I'm looking for - a 240/250ish softail, strong as hell, I'm going big power either S&S or Ultima. Ultima belt primary, chain drive... Springer. Not outrageous long at all, something you would have seen before the 300 + craze. Just a couple inches here and there and rake for a nice handling little chopper. I'm think the old HD Wide Glide style, just with a little more rear tire and a little more raked Springer. And a motor that scares mothers and children.

Doing this one in my basement, so as little as possible welding, fabricating... mainly just want to tinker turning wrenches with my little 10 yr old nephew. His first time touching wrenches, so just a real simple bolt together project we can say he helped build. We'll start with a roller kit, and then he can help pick the pieces. Then someday I'll give it to him.

Throw me some ideas of a good roller/kit company to do business with. November Easyriders has some roller companies listed, but I want the inside scoop on who makes top notch stuff and will be here next year.

Thanks.

Did you look at www.bigbearchoppers.com
www.exilecycles.com

I actualy built a BBC 2 years back. The parts were great and assembly was pretty straight forward.

Thanks, Exile's softail frame with a 230 looks just what I'm looking for. I've seen a lot of real nice BBC's too, but I'm leaning away from the monster wide tires and shooting for more of a 200 to 230. I really like the looks of the 230 in a softail. I need lots of sidewall and shocks for a busted up back and rough roads in MI.

My buddy just got a 250 softail roller that is made by Ultima, it's a preety sharp looking setup and I think he paid like 3500 bucks for it.

My man, how admirable, you will be blessed to show someone, your nephew a trade along with some of your experience..SPCN contruction bikes are a thing of the past, unless your just putting together a show bike..Thy will be soon a bane to the owners, insurance etc..Buy a old bike and modify, that way you will have a vast source of resources, along with a true harley..Resale is better of course..Eventually they, kit makers will have to farm out [China] to stay in bizzness.. But whatever makes you happy will work.

A little advice would be to put it all together for fit and first. Then, take it back apart for paint. I have seen people paint fenders and tanks, then put it together for the first time. Some holes may not line up right and then they are redrilling holes thru the new paint. You may find that you want to install or remove a bracket. Easier to do with primer on the frame than fresh paint.
