I have the dual Choppershox and their larger steel pan (on a rigid) and had tried the regular springs and pin-type(?). The security of the mounting is a GREAT help in itself, as the traditional methods just suck. I also use a Fab Kevin seat bracket, which is the best piece of work I've seen....again, the traditional front brackets just suck.
As for the ride with the Choppershox, they make a huge difference in rebound and seat stability, and enough damping to allow for riding even over RR tracks without feeling like you're gonna fly off or bust a nut. It is hard to feel the actual shock absorbing effect, but it surely is there, as I can ride with only the steel pan, without padding. Also you can get different spring weights. I am using the retrofit mount temporarily. Hope this helps some.
