Carb is off - suggestions on what to do?

S&S e. only looked at main jet so far, 72?

Carb most likely needs a full rebuild. I've already cleaned it up dramatically but the springs all look like crap.

I see all these crazy mods...vaporizers, etc...

anyone recommend anything while I have it off?

what about popping one of those turbulators in?

engine's a modest 89 so no huge fuel demands. I'd like to get it running right and efficiently. Seems to guzzle gas right now.

thoughts?

In my experience those vaporizers & turbolators are a waste of money....

If your spark plugs are black with carbon, leaning it out will gain some mpg..

If not: You want to pick up 8-10 or so mpg, put on a CV carb....

btw...went to a local shop and bought a master rebuild kit. Tore the carb completely apart, cleaned everything thoroughly and put back together

seems to be A-OK. Big step forward!

Put in a 70 or 68 Main-check plugs for proper burn.

Say that again? Sorry...my screen name is literal

ooh, I see...70 or 68 jet, and check plugs

plugs seem about right. Pale color grayish on the bend, and a little black around the threads.

gonna get a full tune from a knowledgeable shop once this is all done

current main jet is .72. Why go smaller?

Get a original boost kit. Best bang for the buck. Dramatically improved throttle response, and I didn't think mine was bad to begin with. http://www.xxxcarburetors.com/productpage.html

Been looking at xxx site a lot

is that booster the same as the sifton annular booster?

I'm not all that concerned about more power just yet, but fuel efficiency and stability...it sounds like a booster might help fuel economy.

Not familiar with the sifton unit. I believe 72 main is the same what's in mine. No decrease in mileage during mixed city/hwy. Haven't done any straight highway to compare. Before my best was 42mpg(95", cams, 10.25:1 SE pistons, SE race ign.,
KN air filter).
