When I first got my '01 Road Kind (used) earlier this year. The seller had it sitting in a cold garage all year in Chicago. The engine sputters occasionally while at an idle or giving it a healthly twist of the throttle. I cleaned out the old gas, and put in a full tank of 91 octane thinking that should clean it up. But it has not. Can anyone recommend my next step?
I would remove the carb bowl & clean everything, jets can be removed for cleaning as well.. Then shoot some carb kleen up thru the jet holes & etc.
You might be able to fix it with out pulling off the carb..
I suspect some gummed up jets or passages in the carb from sitting..
Sounds to me like the pilot jet is plugged up. Do as mentioned above and/or replace the pilot jet. Do not let the carb set with gas in it more then a few months. In winter fill the tank then pull the vacuum hose off the petcock or close it if its a manual one and run the carb dry. Toss the gas in the spring or dump it in a crapper car
