Carb suggestions?
Going to get rid of my 97' Road King Police stock fuel injection system and replace with carb. Has anyone done this and if so what carb did you replace it with and what are suggestions for a carb.
Thanks

After talking with my brother and other Harley guys, I'm going with a Mikuni carb. They are easier to tune and the bike runs so much better with it. I've changed jets on the CV many times and I still can't get it to run perfect throughout the whole RPM range.

One question, what did the lines look like in your tank. Im at the end of a swap myself and have the pingle MM plug/adapter and fuel valve. One check valve came out when I pulled the lines but I cant get the other out. I looked in the tank and they are steel lines and appear to be welded in.. Is this right?!?! Its a 99RK. I have a Thunder Heart Ign. and polished 42 Mikuni mounted. let me know what your tank looked like inside.. thanks

The cv is a much better carb than the mikuni.... ive done back to back dyno runs with the two and the cv actually makes more torque but sacrafices peak hp(which doesnt matter). What is done to your bike and what size jets are you running? what needle?

It has V&H Bigshots and an unknown aftermarket cam that was in the motor when I bought the bike, with a Hypercharger air cleaner. My buddy at the local custom Harley shop swapped jets a couple times so I have no idea whats in there now. It runs good but it pops coming off the throttle at high RPM's. I installed new intake/carb/exhaust gaskets so it's not that, so I figure it's the carb settings.

I've got an 05 FLHT with a stock CV and it works well. No problems here. Toured a few different elevations and other than oil blow by, which has nothing to do with the carb, it was fine.

No offense meant but it sounds like you just need to get your cv sorted. without knowing what cam you have you may have a mismatched cam for your build. also just because you put new gaskets on does not mean they are not leaking. just throwing jets in without knowing what is going on is not a great solution.

usually if its popping, the bike is fat, without knowing what cam its hard to recommend something, a bolt on mikuni may and may not cure your issues, I do know the cv can be tuned to not do that, you just have to have someone familiar enough with trial and error. also do your pipes have any baffles? chad.

The guy at the local custom Harley shop read the plugs, so it's dialed in to the correct mixture. I do have a blown base gasket, maybe that's where it's sucking air.

to th first that is going from efi to carb. the mikuni is a finer tuned carb but th s&s is much eiser th repair down th road if by some reason it gets to haven problems and it can make great power and fuel ecom, if tuned. th factory carb just dont have enuff screws.
i am also gathering parts to change out my 97 efi to s&S. i know pretty much th carb, intake etc. what i want to know is what is th best way to go on th elec ign so i dont have to spend time with hot oil blown in my face timing it. i put crane h4 in th lod sofetail i have. th efi has a crank sensorthat knows when top dead is there. i what th name of a good dependable yet cost effective ing. thanks to you all in advance as you may reply. it takes time to read and to answr.!
