Angry Petcock Usage

I'm extremely new to Harley life and so this is probably an extremely remedial question. There are two petcocks located on the top of the carburetor that I cannot find usage guides for. There's nothing in the manual or the service book regarding them. My guess is that they're the fuel mixture and choke, but even if that's so, how do I know what the appropriate adjustments for them are? Please help this newbie out!

Thanks,
John

I agree with samcro. You might want to post a pic highlighting what you're talking about. Sounds like you've got your terminalogy confused.

Your profile shows you have a 1986 sportster.

Does your carb look like this:

If so, go to this link. It may help you better understand what to adjust - http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s...=276157&page=2

BTW- the term Petcock is used for the switch that controls the flow from the fuel tank to the carb - located on the left side of most bikes not on the carb itself. You are likely looking at adjusting screws not Petcocks on the top of the carb.

i would say that if you dont know th difference it petcocks and ajusting screws, then mayb you should find someone that does and let them show you how to adjust them. if you do it wrong, you just might end up with a bike that wont start or run .
slow down and take it easy.
