slow reaction when getting on throttle

I put a set of drag pipes on my 2005 883c and have done nothing else. I can smell it running rich and when I open the carb I can see black smoke coming from it. It is very laggy when you accelerate and is running like crap. What needs to be done to make this run right. I am not a mechanic by no means so please point me in the right direction.

Your carb likely needs rejetted if it was running fine before the pipes. Not a task I would suggest you take on if you don't know what your doing.

At least a re-jet.....probably work best with baffles and a re-jet.
