Coupla things to check...
It SOUNDS lean, and a check for an air leak IS in order...
Also, make sure you put the needle jet in the right way...it CAN be put in backwards, which will affect the carb this way....

The needle 'jet' is flat on the bottom side & the top side the needle goes into is tapered on the inside, kinda flared to the top..
So the gas from the main jet can pass the needle easily..
Also: when winding in the idle/mix screw, be careful as it bottoms out. Cause the screw is brass & the seat is only aluminum. So very gentle turning here is required..Otherwise you can damage the seat & the carb body is ruined..

Well, I don't care for the dyno-junk, but thats me..
And CVs are on of my special services. I have bought used carbs that were ruined this way.....
Yes gentle to bottom, then count 3 full 360* rotations out..
Which IMO 3 turns out is TOO rich.. Yes the dyno directions sat 3 out..
I have about 10 dyno-kits in the drawer that I have taken outta cvs when I refurbish em & build em to suit a persons scoot, riding style, etc..

, have thrown many of those kits in the trash.
one thing not mentioned above, and is easy to get wrong, is the slide. make sure slide is raising as you open the throttle.
you will be MUCH better off to return carb to stock, start with a 46 pilot and 185 main, then tune her in.

185 sounds like a main jet for a TC not an Evo. It's been a long time since I messed with a CV on a Evo though.
I've seen guys that have actually lost the needle jet when changing the emulsion tube.

yeah ed, with those pipes, i figured a big fat main for starter would be safer. hes gonna have to stay on the main to make power.

I still think a check for an intake leak is in order...those DJ kits are designed to be rich as hell...(and I agree, a complete waste of money...many in MY junk drawer, too!)
All you really needed to do was bump the pilot jet a tad, and leave the main alone...
When the needle jet is in correctly, it should protrude from the carb body into the throat of the carb just a bit....if its in backwards, you won't see it at all from the mouth of the carb...

Alot of folks say they hate the Thunderslide kits. I used one successfully on my old Night Train. I'm not trying to debate with people who are in the MC industry running shops but, since this gentleman is new to tuning, maybe we could just help him out w/o adding horror stories. If you guys had told me my parts suck when I was just starting to learn, I would have been spooked. No offense intended.
Go to: www.nightrider.com
There is an extensive library of carb tuning advice there.
